Can someone with some knowledge on the subject explain how they can make a prequel to 'The Wizard of Oz' when the original film was all just Dorothy's dream?

Skyfall. I thought the cinematography was great and I also liked how the plot seemed a bit more intimate than some other James Bond films. The only thing I regretted about it was that I'd hoped to have seen more of Berenice Marlohe, as she's rather stunning. She reminds me of a European Gong Li, whom I've always admired. A-

Even the kids want to see this, AFTER Breaking Dawn Part gazillion! Sigh... ;)

I think in the novel it wasn't just a dream so maybe it's a prequel to the novel and not the movie?

Exactly, why not just start from scratch and make the books.

Was hoping that would be the case but it doesn't look like it. They've even tried to pay tribute to the original by having the beginning of the film in black and white, which is a laughable mistake as the originals first act was in sepia, maybe they should of watched it first!

A film about Dorothy's life before she went to bed that night?

I assumed, since the book apparently had sequels/prequels (or maybe just books about the people in Oz), the movie would be based on one of the books. Apparently not?

Well, I have no explanation now as to why they made a prequel then but at least the last time Sam Rami and James Franco teamed up it was for Spiderman 3 and that was just gold wasn't it? Wasn't it?.....Um, how come no one is agreeing with me here?

As to the last movie I watched, saw Crossfire Hurricane last night. Has some great footage and I'm always up for hearing Keith, Mick, etc talk about their history but I don't think I learned anything new from this. What it did do was remind me that the next time I'm at the Library I need to grab a copy of Life by Keith Richards.
