haha the R&H cd book has a typo. it says AATW is recorded at the "save the yuppies concert on nov. 8th 1987" yuppies was in san fran on nov 11th. the denver show was nov 8th

That is still one fine booklet.  I don't care what you say.
That is a great booklet. I love everything about it.

*just realized she's bumping a thread that hasn't been posted in for a month* Oh well...

I am in love with Exit, nice slow heavy intro that keeps on building up untill its no longer an intro but a solo and outro! 8)

Still love Rattle and Hum.  The flow is not that great because of the live stuff being intertwined with the new songs, but all of the new R&H songs are good, and many of them are great (All I Want Is You, Heartland, Hawkmoon 269 and God Part II in particular).

The idea that this album was a failure because the moronic critics didn't like is stupid.  The people at the time spoke, and this album was very successful.

Give me a 3-disc mastered re-release with a Lovetown show on DVD or the complete Denver Show in B/W... that would be cool... don't bother with the RH movie... it's owned by Paramount and editing and fixing it would be a headache

I wonder what overall reviews of the album would be if the band decided to exclude all the live cuts and leave the studio tracks. That for me is a huge reason why I don't enjoy the album as much.

I don't think Rattle And Hum would have worked as a pure studio album.  I agree that the live tracks are not among the best outtakes from the JT Tour, but their presence on the album freed up the band to conduct a brilliant roots music experiment.  A full album coming out of Sun Studios would have been a bad idea at the time.

That said, I have the album on vinyl and each side sounds like a complete EP to me.

Hopefully! There are so many awesome things that could go on it, besides the actual remastering...

I'm with you on this one. It just feels awkward with those live songs on there. I think they just tried too hard by putting those live songs on there. An album with the studio songs alone would have been awesome, and I would have loved it even more. When I listen to the album I feel like the live songs just kind of get in the way of the great studio songs.

As Desert Sky did, this is my preferred track listing:

1. Van Diemen's Land
2. Desire
3. Hawkmoon 269
4. Silver and Gold (I think this could have worked on R&H if it wasn't a B-side on Joshua Tree)
5. Angel of Harlem
6. When Love Comes to Town
7. God Part II
8. Love Rescue Me
9. Heartland
10. All I Want Is You

*gasp* They actually had enough songs to make a studio album. :o

Well, I never noticed that... I think I'll put your playlist together and see if it works.

Yeah I think this track list would work. I only went through it in my head quickly, but I think there is some flow to it. Songs 4 to 7 could probably be in various orders though. But I like creating my own track lists off various U2 songs and albums / how I would have wanted an album to be.

I never mess with an album's tracklisting because I assume that's the way the artist intended it to be and if they like it that way, so be it. But sometimes some songs just feel out of place, like closing tracks not sounding like the end, or one song that just disrupts the flow entirely... I take those songs out then, but I still listen to the original listing.
