Well Tom Mehigan sounds like he really appreciated his time with Bono and the lads last year...  ::)

Quote
Did you learn much with U2 on their giant 360 tour?

Nah, mate, I didn't take in anything supporting them, them gigs were horrible. Worst ever. U2 fans are cardboard cut-outs. Can you imagine supporting U2? Their fans are probably into one band and one album - Joshua Tree.
I didn't learn anything 'cos that's just a f---ing different level. It was amazing to watch and meet them, but I didn't learn anything apart from just get the f--- out (laughs).

Did you feel you may as well have been playing to an empty stadium?

That's how it felt to us. We were the support, so it is what it is. I hate supporting bands, we're not a support band. So that's never gonna happen again.

Did you get any words of wisdom from Bono?

He told me about this Irish poet guy, I can't remember his name. 'Cos my dad's Irish as well. He's like, "Look at this guy on YouTube", or whatever. That's all he said to me, something f---ing big like that (laughs).

You never Googled it, did you?

No, I never looked it up. As soon as he said his name,
I forgot it (laughs).

Fair enough. Some elements of U2's crowd are cardboard cutouts and only like one band...

I remember a TV appearance of U2 where a bandmember was a cardboard cutout, so what was he expecting? :-)

I like Kasabian but that guy sounds like a d*ck to me.

What I would like to remind Kasabian is that U2 has been around over 30 years and many fans are indeed....older. So Kasabian, if you are even around in 30 years and big enough to have the biggest tour in history, I'd like to see how your fanbase is at one of your future concerts. That is all!

Anyone got the new album yet - what do you think of it? I like it, it's difficult to say yet whether it's as good as West Ryder. In it's sound, it's like a mix of the debut album with quite a lot of synth and also West Ryder.

The keyboard on the opening track 'Let's Roll Like We Used To' really sounds like Maneater by Hall and Oates!

And Acid Turkish Bath really sounds like the Joy Division track 'Decades'. Deliberate plagiarism, or accidental?

I have it. I have mixed feelings though.  :P

I didn't like the lack of arena rockers like Underdog or Fire.

True, I don't think there's any track on there as good as either of those tracks.

but, I would say its MILES ahead of the debut, and about equal with Empire.

I just wish there was more tracks like Velociraptor! and Re-Wired, and less of the slow, trippy songs.

I thought their debut was light years ahead of Empire.  The new one falls between the debut and West Ryder, which I consider their best so far.

I agree NS. I think Empire is their weakest album. And I don't think the new one is as good as West Ryder. Days Are Forgotten is probably the stand out track.

I don't know...I've always found the debut to be really spotty. every track was either really good (Cutt Off, Club Foot, LSF) or really filler. Empire seemed like a better album as a whole.

but West Ryder has the best of both worlds.

Pretty solid show in melbourne last night. They virtually live in Australia now I reckon, tour that often.

Stinking hot day and an even hotter venue, but very good...

Still tickets available for them to be seen in a small venue in DC. Hmmm...
