I'm 99% sure that if a Catholic joins the Masons he's excommunicated immediately. I think.

EDIT: See below post and Briscoe's post and you will see how I was not quite right with the above sentence. ;)

Really? I'm not so sure about that...

I think technically they're prevented from taking communion, but I don't think they are formally excommunicated.

But that could be semantics. And I'm anti-semantic.

Well yeah, as I'm said, I'm not quite sure.

Edit: Did some quick research. You're right, they are not permitted to receive Communion. There is also an extent to which they could be excommunicated for their Masonic membership, though. They'd have to act in a "gravely imputable way" for the penalty of excommunication to apply to them.

My source, since I know people like sources: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login I used the table of contents at the top and jumped down to the section titled "What is the Catholic Church's position on Freemasonry?"

But back to the thread, I don't think Bono is a Mason or Illuminati. I think he's the singer in the biggest band of the world who would have probably mentioned if he was in those groups by now.

Bono is definitely a mason.

Didn't you see his bandana during the Vertigo tour?

I never thought that I'd see a discussion of Freemasonry on this forum.  8)

So, by this standard is Bono also a practicing Moslem and Christian and peace lover (or whomever is signified by the peace symbol)?

I don't understand this discussion.... ???    (Seems like people are taking symbols and actions out of their context which is always a very dangerous thing to do b/c life is lived in time/ place (culture) context.)
