First a short tour in Europe ..
« on: January 27, 2009, 04:45:51 AM »
.. before they come back in 2010.

But where are they gonna play? This is what I've got from the net:

For sure:
1 night in Barcelona
1 night in The Netherlands (Amsterdam)
1 night in Paris
1 night in Poland

In 2009 not in:
Austria

Can we make this list bigger? Together we can! So please help!

I made an overview of all the rumours. Consider them to be just that, rumours, though some are pretty exact and persistent.

The "Short Tour" theory is not realistic.

It doesen't make any sense logistically to have just 8 or 9 gigs in Europe this summer. Any one who knows anything about U2 tours knows that a major "leg" like Europe or US is usually 30 plus gigs. They have a lot of gear, and it doesen't make any sense to do just a few gigs and then head off to the U.S. It would be commercial suicide.

Take Croke Park Dublin for example, the stadium is free from 13th July until around 30th July. There are two whole weekends in there and it is the only realistic option for them in Dublin as all other weekends oa tied up with GAA matches until October. I can't see them waiting to play here until next year. The no "In the round" stages at Croke Park is a real issue, so it will be interesting to see how they get around that, but theres always a way. There is another possible venue in Dublin also, the RDS(about 40,000capacity), it's much less likely but U2 just don't do places like Phoenix Park, too open, too many variables, too much hastle.

Wembley Stadium too has plenty of free dates also, and others mentioned like Stad Du France etc. all have free dates.

Had a look at the list of "Rumoured" gigs around Europe, it's good to finally see a compiled list of the rumoured gigs, so long as we all know nothing is officially confirmed, so this might be considered a very rough guide to how thing might pan out.

In relation to Croke Park,Dublin ,they have automatic planning for 3 concerts per year, but additional concerts can also be applied for, this article confirms that promoters MCD applied for a fourth concert in 2008 for Prince and were successful :

this year only 1 concert in the stadium is booked so far, leaving 2 remaining. But U2 did 3 gigs there in June 2005. So I expect up to 4 U2 gigs there, so it can just be applied for. I also notice that MCD did not apply for planning until March 2008,for that Prince gig just 3 months before the gig, so that also explains why MCD (who promote all U2 gigs in ireland) have not applied yet for additional Croke Park gigs, as they do not have to do so for another few months.

Have seen a post on u2.com from a Frecnh fan that saw in the local newspaper that they are scheduled to play in Nice on July 15th !
No surprise that they will play Nice seeing as it's in the backyard.
There must be other rumoured/semi confirmed dates out there........

acocks green ! i don't think they would use either st andrews or villa park for live shows here .so its likely to be coventry which wouldn't be to much of a jaunt.
