UTEOTW. "Ate the food, drank the wine". But I always get confused because so often he sings "Broke the bread, drank the wine". I never know what to sing. Damn you Bono for changing lyrics live!!!!

Yes.

At the Raleigh show I had a guy next to me who kept nudging me 'what album is this from, what album is this from'.

My Australian accent was a challenge in The South anyway, but in the midst of a U2 concert I told him that 'COBL' was 'Vertigo' from the 'Vertigo' album...

OMG!! What a great idea!! I would have started giving him the wrong information!!

"You know, I dont pay that close attention to the lyrics. It's the music I like. If the lyrics are also good it's just icing on the cake. But it's not the first thing I pay attention to."

I'm like this

He was really annoying me... and you know, it wasn't intentional! Giving him the wrong information, that is.

I was just lost in the moment of being at my first U2 concert in 3 years, having fun at the CONFAB, and... who CARES what song it is! Don't you just sing?! Be in the moment?!

This is kind of embarrassing given my user name, but I keep forgetting the opening lyrics to "Last Night on Earth."  Not the "She feels the ground is giving way..." part, but the part that Bono speaks over the intro ("When the fuel goes down she stops her car, says it feels like freedom, she's back on the street where the sweet smells are.")

Maybe if I write it 50 times on a blackboard I'll remember from now on.  :)

Do you sing "last night on mars" instead of "last night on earth" in the chorus? :)

Sometimes it slips out.  ;D  But it screws up the rhyme, so instead of "she don't care what it's worth" I have to sing something like "she don't care for the stars" and it just sounds weird.

  • when you stop seeing beauty, you start growing old
this gets me ??? every time...from stay: "and if you look you look through me, and when you talk it's not to me, and if/when I touch you you don't feel a thing......seems that it's worded different on each version...I GET SO CONFUSED and it's my favorite lines in the song, so naturally, I want to nail them perfectly.  Occasionally I get it right and have a fist pump moment in the car...

I have heard Out of Control many, many, many times.

I still have no idea what the last verse is. It still sounds like "My *something* at the garden gate *something* childhood.... in his childhood!"

Yeah, that's a tough one to pick out.  It goes like this -

I fought fate, there's blood at the garden gate
The man said childhood, it's in his childhood

I usually jam out when I'm doing yardwork etc. So God knows what kind of dribble I'm spewing when I'm playing Lawnmower Karaoke.
