it's an over used lazy word, used to describe faux poets in sunglasses.

Genius!

OK lets set the rules - an Americn band who claims to have an irish background is (drumroll) AMERICAN.

ALthough a band who has non Irish members, as does U2 (Adam still carries a British passport), can claim irishness as they are based in Ireland and is loudly Irish.

Well, in Flogging Molly's case they have some of each, so they're more "Irish-American"

In that case, nope. Have they lived and been brought up in Ireland?

In that case, yes.

The founder, singer and main songwriter, yes.

What about The Undertones and Feargal Sharkey. Now there's two completely different genres from the one person.

Many of the bands mentioned are either split up or haven't done much in quite a while.

The Irish Music Awards called "Choice Music Prize" is a good place to start with whats happening right now (rather than 15 years ago)with the Irish Music Scene. Here are this years nominees. Two Door Cinema Club won.

I've seen 6 of the 10 acts nominated acts live, and all of them are good.

For a complete list of all Irish band/artist albums releases in 2010, you will find a comprehensive list of over 250 here:
