Just finished Michael Chabon's Telegraph Avenue and it actually turned out to be a chore.

I've been a fan of Chabon's work, but this one was one complicated mess with several underdeveloped characters.

On the Road by Jack Kerouac. I've never read it.

Tell me how that goes, I have wanted to read it, but haven't yet.

That's unfortunate. I was really looking forward to this but I keep hearing so many less than favorable opinions of it that it's turned me off from reading it.

Just wrapped up Stephen King's Everything's Eventual. Not sure why I waited so long to read this collection but overall so great stories in this one.

Since I'm still in something of a Halloween mood and want to read some more short stories I think I'll start on Neil Gaiman's collection, Fragile Things, next. That's another set of short stories I've been meaning to read for a few years now.

I just started The Middlesteins by Jami Attenberg.  I needed something a little more grounded after my disconcerting romp through Cloud Atlas.  Strangely, I have no desire to see the film as the novel itself seemed like little more than six short stories with a few connections. The Middlesteins, meanwhile, has a few of my favorite motifs including multi-generational family drama, shifting third-person-limited narration, and dry humor.

I was looking forward to it one too.  I can't believe it turned out to be such a weak novel.  I'm a fan of most of Chabon's work - Wonder Boys and The Yiddish Policemen's Union are my top 2 favorites.
