Could the next tour be the last?
« on: August 27, 2011, 05:44:24 PM »
With all the talk of the new album thats going to be released God knows when, its safe to assume another tour is coming. But with the lads not getting any younger etc, could the next tour be the time to say goodbye to U2?

(HOPE NOT)

Thoughts?

ALmost certainly not. First, I'm pretty sure they're contracted for more and secondly, indications are that next tour will be a smaller, indoor affair and there's about a 99% chance that when U2 do their last tour, it'll be a giant outdoor stadium bonanza designed to be their biggest ever.

As long as they all stay healthy, they've got a contract with Livenation to play out. How long's left on that, about 9 years or something?

No.

The LiveNation contract runs for at least 8 years yet : at least two tours in that time, if not more. I give the band 12-15 years touring left.

It could be, but I doubt it.

People have been speculating for the last 22 years every time the Stones embark upon a new tour that it will be their last.  I still think they've got another one left in them even though they're 70.

But do you want them to become like the stones?

Keef apparently has arthritis, so playing guitar is going to be difficult at Stones standard in future.

My dear boy, they are already like the Stones.

That's ok, they'll just add to their myriad of backup musicians play guitar for him

Larry Mullen manages to play drums with his physical problems, so I'm sure Keef will be able to.  :)

this could be their last real tour (as opposed to a fair well tour or a greatest hits tour)

I have to disagree with you  ;)

When you release an album as great as No Line On The Horizon, you are not close to the Stones, that haven't written a great song in 30 years...

I don't understand the hate on the Rolling Stones, music to me has no age.  They could be 100 years old and play hits only, and it would still be a great show.  Saw the stones twice in my life, great, great shows both times !

A Bigger Bang (their last studio album circa 2005) was full of well written songs. And, believe it or not, it's an overall better album than No Line.
