U2.com CD for next year doesn't seem so shabby.
« on: October 24, 2011, 10:08:37 PM »
Look like U2.com got the message about how fans felt about the DUALS disc.  Next years fan club release was announced today:

U2360°. 110 shows. 30 countries. 7 million fans. It was the tour that broke all the records and now you get to create the soundtrack, the ultimate U2360° setlist.

Ever wanted to select the tracks for a U2 set ? This is your chance!

The tracklisting of 'U22',  a live double-CD collection,  will be decided by you, our U2.com subscribers.

Over 26 months the band performed songs from their most recent album No Line On The Horizon all the way back to their debut Boy, playing at least 22 tracks every night.

So what were the stand-out songs?  The tracks which define this tour ?  Is there a song you could  never leave out of a U2 live set? What surprised you on U2360° and what track never failed to deliver?

FROM THE 46 TRACKS BELOW SELECT 22 - AND VOTE FOR YOUR ULTIMATE SETLIST.

Listed in alphabetical order, the tracks have been drawn from shows in each of the 30 countries where the U2360° spaceship touched down.

1. Take a listen to the audio clips.
2. Select the 22 you'd like to see on 'U22'.
3. Hit 'Submit'
4. Check the latest results.*

When the voting period is over we'll reveal the final tracklisting and you'll receive your own copy of the double CD, 'U22',  presented in a  custom-designed gatefold sleeve.

'U22' is a limited-edition release for U2.com subscribers only.

* In order to keep the final results a surprise, this snapshot of the latest voting will only be available for some of the voting period.

Please Note: Voting is  open to current U2.com Subscribers - or anyone who subscribes/resubscribes during the voting period. One vote per subscriber. Voting closes on DECEMBER 2ND.

Sounds like a step in the right direction at least.

I know.  I didn't believe it until I saw the voting page in the member portion of the website with audio samples of all the songs.

Out of interest, does anyone have a list of the 46 songs that you can choose from? I'm not a subscriber, but am curious as to what they're offering, noting that a bunch of real left-field tracks were played during the tour (e.g. Electrical Storm, Your Blue Room, Zooropa, Mercy!).

I do think this is a lovely idea too, especially after Duals. Nice way to make subscribers feel involved in the process.

I put together a list of the songs up for a vote. Personally I'd like to see as unique a collection as possible.  To help determine what's unique I tried to count up the number of times these tracks appeared "live" in an audio or video format.  I only included widely available commercial releases.  Here's what I found:

I Will Follow - 12
Where The Streets Have No Name - 10
With Or Without You - 9
New Year’s Day - 8
One - 8
Pride (In the Name of Love) - 8
Sunday Bloody Sunday - 8
Beautiful Day - 7
I Still Haven’t Found What I’m looking For - 7
All I Want Is You - 6
Elevation - 6
Mysterious Ways - 6
Until The End Of The World - 6
Vertigo - 6
40 - 5
City Of Blinding Lights - 5
Bad - 4
Even Better Than The Real Thing - 4
Party Girl -    4
Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of - 4
The Fly - 4
Walk On - 4
Angel Of Harlem - 3
Desire - 3
I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight -3
Magnificent - 3
Out Of Control - 3
Love Rescue Me -   2
Miss Sarajevo - 2
Moment of Surrender - 2
Stay (Faraway, So Close!) - 2
The Unforgettable Fire - 2
Breathe - 1
Get On Your Boots (new version) - 1
Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me - 1
In A Little While - 1
No Line On the Horizon - 1
One Tree Hill - 1
Ultra Violet (Light My Way) - 1
Unknown Caller - 1
All I Want Is You/Love Rescue Me - 0
Electrical Storm - 0
Mothers Of The Disappeared - 0
Return Of The Stingray Guitar    - 0
Scarlet - 0
Spanish Eyes - 0
Your Blue Room -    0
Zooropa - 0

Bare in mind that many of these songs were also released on the Rose Bowl DVD. And to my ear not many of these songs differ very much from those released last year. The exceptions being Get On Your Boots and possibly Magnificent; if it is in fact the "newer" live version. Older favorites that got new live treatment but were not on the Rose Bowl DVD are EBTTRT and Desire.

My two cents.

They already did. Missing in the list are:

Mercy
Every Breaking Wave
North Star
Boy Falls From The Sky
Glastonbury

You mean me. I think i'm the only one (so far) complaining about yet another Live CD set with songs that we've heard so many times before.

Also: www.u2torrents.com. live material should be free!

U2 want to please fans with songs we already have. Live or Remixed. But maybe it is time to please us with songs we don't have! We're loyal enough to deserve a real treat I think.

Any idea how many different version of Pride, Streets, ISHFWILF, SBS etc. etc. true fans already have? I think we deserve something 'new' in our library.

When I learned about the voting-for-your-360-live-cd-set I was positive at first, But it was all destroyed when I saw the list didn't contain any of the 'new/unreleased' songs... BLEH!

Are the "new" (North Star, Every Breaking Wave ...) songs being left out so that they can still be released "properly" commercially and still be "new"? Or are the band thinking they are crap and so don't want to put their name to 'em anymore? I'm over analysing this already ...
