Are the "new" (North Star, Every Breaking Wave ...) songs being left out so that they can still be released "properly" commercially and still be "new"? Or are the band thinking they are crap and so don't want to put their name to 'em anymore? I'm over analysing this already ...

I think the first option. Becase Electrical Storm is on the list, and I remember Bono saying that it wasn't such a great version. Also a lot of other tracks are available that are questionable versions....

But anyway, isn't this on the FANS to decide what we wanna hear? Oh no.... it isn't, it is just a trick to make us BELIEVE we have something to say, but in the end we're gonna end up with a selection of live songs that we already have live...

With the exception of ZOOROPA and SCARLET I suppose...

Unbelievable.

Just goes to show that some people are unrelentingly negative regardless of what U2 do. Fans have been calling for a Fan Club release like this for years. 22 unreleased live songs!

Basically you are saying that only a new studio album released exclusively through the Fan Club will do. That is just wildly unrealistic.

After Duals I was ready to pass on renewing my subscription, but this is a pretty good response for the fans. Yeah, we've all got multiple versions of the favourite tracks and some are already on the DVD and U2Start, but the chance to get decent audio with (hopefully) the best versions from the tour, is a positive.

It does seem like a big improvement. I suppose they could have gone further and allowed every member to choose their own customised set list although that would have probably meant download only (and more complaints about there being no physical product.) I do agree it would be nice to have the gift of unreleased material but I can't really complain about a full live album chosen by the fans, especially if it's nicely packaged.

ps Electrical Storm sounds great. Any chance we could vote that in?

Either you've failed to understand my message, or you just take me literally on purpose.

What I mean is that often big commercial organisation and companies try to manipulate the consumers by coming up with clever things to make them believe they have freedom or choice and therefore trying to enhance the excitement of something 'new'.

U2 took this concept and parodied it with ZOO TV and especially The Fly tried to tell us that we would be all better off if we just try to initiate our own thoughts of what freedom should be rather than letting other (companies) tell us what to believe.

Now 20 years later the company U2 inc. (not the band!) is doing the same thing to us. They are using the failure of the previous 'offer' and now make us believe that we're in charge of what the offer is! Everyone gets a vote! People feel they're involved and respond positively. But 'we' fail to see the limitations because we're distracted by the opportunity to be 'involved'.

The limitations are in this case:
1. The lack of the new/unreleased songs from the list
2. The fact that whatever we choose it is going to be YET ANOTHER set of live songs!

May I remind you that BEING at a U2 Show is a completely different thing than HAVING a U2 Show (on cd/dvd)? It is nice to experience the show when you're actually there, and it is also nice to have the same show you've been to (nostalgia). But having a 'selection' of Live tracks of the previous tour is not so exciting at all... I can think of many other things U2 could do to please true fans. Because that is what we are, we pay subscription because we are fans right?

Fans don't care whether or not something has commercial value or not. So why not giving us some demo's of old albums, or some video-outtakes or making-offs that only fans are interested in? How about a dvd with some old ZOO TV material that was recorded? Why does it always have to be 'current' material? Why does it always have to be in perfect condition? Why does it always have to be Pride or Streets Or Sunday Bloody Sunday? Why not more of those little snippets they made themselves during the recording sessions of their albums?

There is so much more material out there that they don't use, simply because they think it has no commercial value, but it is exactly THAT stuff that they can make U2 fans happy with...

But no.. we have to pay $50 for a 'selection' of live songs of the 360º degree tour. We've already had quite a few Soundboard/Radio shows of this tour and a DVD. But we're still paying for something that we don't REALLY want.

I'm sorry if you think I'm complaining, but I think U2 fans are not truly getting what they should have for $50. And for that reason... I'm out.

Actually, you're not the only one that isn't excited about this.  I think it's awful, for all the reasons you said.  Also, this isn't like having a full concert on CD.  This is going to be a mash-up of live tracks from various shows that will have no flow to it whatsoever.

And guess what?  You can rip the audio from the Rose Bowl DVD and find all of these tracks from Glastonbury and the pretty high quality bootlegs and create your very own "Best of 360" (because that's what they're really offering) yourself without paying a dime!

These statements are completely contradictory. You complain that the release is a set of live songs, and in its place you call for......a set of live songs.

I'm afraid you are just complaining for the sake of it.

That would probably be the ONLY good argument that you could find against my plead. I'm afraid you are just arguing for the sake of it.
