I still do not understand the conspiracy theories even slightly. Given that there is literally no advantage whatsoever to U2.com for rigging the vote... why would they bother? Do we really think that they care that much?

U2 will put whatever they feel most comfortable with on the album.

The vote will reflect that.

Yes, because U2 care SO much about pleasing their fans that they would go to the effort of faking a vote to win fan plaudits and would bother fully mastering 24 live tracks they had no intention of ever releasing in any form, yet are *so* uncomfortable with most of their output that they would decide the CD in advance. For absolutely no advantage.

It's just a nonsensical conspiracy theory at every level.

It's not exactly a lot of work to "master" live tracks.

Metallica does it for every show and releases them, takes them about 2 days.

Other bands do it too.

given that the bulk of people who are gonna vote, have voted already and certainly will have voted by the time the ranking gets hidden, its going to be very difficult for them to do much changing of the 22 after that. it will be pretty obvious if it happens.

I hope it refects the setlist from the last shows of the last leg... with Stingray guitar thrown in as the opener... that would rock.  I'm still bitter over Breathe being cut from 360 at the Rose Bowl... SHAME!!!!  lol...

A shame YBR and Hold Me aren't in the top 22 right now.

Both won't be seen ever again most likely.

But again, why? Why on Earth bother going to this effort? I they just released 22 live songs they had picked as their fan club CD, it's not like many people would have complained. It's just such elaborate lengths to go to in order to serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever.

To react to the criticism of U2.com, to "prove" they are in touch with their fans and that U2.com has "value", in other words to sell more memberships.

i wouldn't go that far. for years i thought i'd missed the chance to hear HMTM live, and lookie there. and who in their right minds would of believed Zooropa/Scarlett/YBR would EVER get played again, seriously? That is to say, don't right the future setlists off so quickly!

Or maybe they are reacting to valid criticism and trying to do a better job?  And I thought I was cynical!  I'm Susie Sunshine compared to some of you!

Well maybe Hold Me could reappear, but I'm just thinking of how many tours that band will have left.

YBR seems like just an experiment. It sort of died after about 10 performances. Unless they want to try it in Europe next time around.

But that's what U2 does. Not that I think this is rigged, but I'm just saying that, in the same way that you always ask why anyone today should expect U2 to make artistic decisions irrespective of commercial concerns, in the same way I can ask why anyone would expect U2 to do anything the easy way. I mean, why keep talking about new projects and then shelving them, why not just keep quiet until the project is done? Because that's what U2 does.

In fact, if the vote is rigged, I think the band would have come up with an even more complicated way to rig it than even the one that JTB suggested!

but can you say "because thats what u2 does" about this? have they got a history of pretending to run polls and then changing the results?

You can't have a history of something until there's at minimum, a first time.

Okay, 7, performances  :P

But it was dropped nonetheless, due to the lack of crowd response I think. And I always found it odd how they decided to try it in North America where crowd response isn't usually strong period.

Amen to that last part. I was in the inner circle at the Salt Lake City show, and no one was really showing any excitement except for me (I was 14) and a college-aged kid in front of me. Most people just bobbed their hands in the air (Yes, even during Elevation). It was pitiful. People were even getting annoyed at me for jumping around to much. Gosh, I wish I could have been to the Slane Castle show, I would have felt right at home.
