Nine Inch Nails
« on: October 29, 2011, 06:12:55 AM »
So after the Zoo Station cover, I've listened to a bit more of NIN and now realise I may have had them/him wrong, even though I knew about Hurt. I assumed it was all very metal but I now see the more experimental, industrial stuff. Are there any fans here and if so, could they direct a U2 fan to this end of the spectrum and away from the shouty metal end. I like the With Teeth singles so far.

I started listening to music in my early teens and the only groups I listened to back then were Nine Inch Nails and U2.  I think for the first year I heard nothing but those two bands.  My musical interests have grown since then, but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Nine Inch Nails.  The Downward Spiral is still one of my favorite albums of all time because it really got me hooked on music.

Downward Spiral
The Fragile
Pretty Hate Machine

are greatness. the Broken & Fixed EPs are good to. Never heard the post-Fragile stuff.

TDS and Fragile are greatness. PHM is to dated, imo.

you might like the last 3 albums: Ghosts I-IV, Year Zero and The Slip.

also, there was a mostly-acoustic CD called Still that came with the 2-CD version of their live album, And All That Could Have Been.

It's been a while since I listened to TDS, so I can't really comment on that since I don't remember most of the songs. But Ghosts is really cool too.

Been a NIN fan for a long time and generally like With Teeth the least although its singles were good.

The Fragile is an awesome album, and I think Year Zero is fantastic.  Year Zero would be a good album if you don't like the metal stuff.  It's a little more industrial and electronic while Broken is a great album for the Heavy Metal type fan.  The Downward Spiral is also a classic.

Yeah, I got an e-mail from NIN.com when that happened and it was really cool because they offered it in various formats, including lossless formats. Sadly, I didn't like the album that much, but it was really cool of him to do that.
