Sorry MarsGirl.......I wasn't trying to be vulgar.  I was just trying to discuss it from a medical point of view.

Finally got around to watching the episode (being on the road for two weeks sucks). I too have some issues with Bono's comments on circumcision. I'm personally opposed to it, especially on infants who can't freely choose the procedure. As pointed out, the studies are inconsistent. I can get behind suggesting it for third world African countries as studies have shown it reduces the risk of transmission for them, but in industrialized wealthy nations I don't think it's necessary. It remains in my mind a barbaric, unnecessary procedure most of the time.

Hmmm...there's something about hearing Bono talking about circumcision that gives me the creeps...

I can understand that.

Sometimes, it is a nessecary procedure determined by a DR and not done for silly cosmetic or "social fitting in" reasons.  Males, same for females, are beautiful as created.  Occasionally, a newborn boy will have foreskin that is too tight, does not contract properly, which can cause him problems with bladder infection, etc. as he grows.  The baby's Pediatrician will access and medically advise circumcision.   This was the case with my son, it was strongly advised and the only reason I agreed to it.  Since, being Catholic it was not done for religious purpose.

There is still debate as to whether or not, adult male circumcision helps to stop the spread of Aids.  Condoms have been proven to be the most effective.

Yeah, I've always thought it should be an individual's choice. I've never figured out why, if it helps with HIV/Aids, the rates of infection are lower in Europe than in North America, considering how much higher the snip rate is in North America. Seems like education is much more relevant.

I agree.  Education is the best resource and safer sex.

That's the big thing. Snipped or not, you still have to wrap it up.

I agree.

I do too and only if medically indicated.
