^ this gantry lowering the shuttle onto the plane was just used for the last time today, so I assume it'll be up for sale soon.  :)

update: turns out that wasn't the last time. It'll get one more job loading Endeavour onto the jet for its last flight to Los Angeles. After that, though, break out the checkbook, boys!

picture this:

2 long rails suspended far above the arena floor. a smaller stage (maybe about the size of Coldplay's current one) at one end of the floor...but not really. the stage (a grating made of something really lightweight but strong) is actually floating above the floor. U2 comes on, plays a couple of songs. then - the entire stage, which is suspended above the floor, lifts another 8 feet or so and begins to slowly move down those rails. half a dozen songs later the stage is at the other end of the arena. they play 4 or 5 songs at that end, then the stage begins to move back to its original position. two songs at that end, then they leave the stage and come back for the encore.

I'd love that.  :)

basically, this idea x 2:

Mark Fisher usually designs the stages so we'll see what he has lined up for London 2012.

Didn't U2 start planning 360 before vertigo finished? So maybe they are planning the next one now?

I just had a good idea, imagine U2 having Holograms of themselves playing and popping around
all over the arena, like you can put your hand threw it but it really looks like say Edge is right next to you or
whichever of them..probably pretty expensive, thats like Disneyland stuff....or Star Wars.... :)

I still like my hologram idea.....hey and the news today said some airport now instead of asking a security
personnel directions or flight info, they have either an avi or a hologram of a women standing there..so something
like that...Bono would never have to walk down the aisles again... :D :D

This is something I'd like to see U2 adapt regardless of whether they play arenas or stadium-sized gigs: having a stage lighting/video rig and a second lighting/video rig for the audience.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WfJegdDA5Y

Make the audience the (co-)stars of the show!   8)

I would like to see them do something that is like slow-motion flash. I noticed that Soundgarden uses something in their tour that is like a slow-playing movie behind their stage. It is so slow that it seeps into your sub-conscious.

get on it Willie!

Something based on this would rule:
