Jo and Monica: thanks so much for sharing your "never too old" experiences.  ;D It makes me smile to read about people who are brave and adventurous in the pursuit of happiness (however they define that).

And yes, Ms. Jo, you will have to wear a retainer for the rest of your life. :-\ You'll need to have it re-made every few years too.  I've been quite devoted my retainer for the past 13 years and it has made all the difference.  Brother in law has had braces twice and never wore his retainers; his teeth have all slipped and rotated and look terrible as a result.  I know I can count on my smile to stay the course because I'm slipping in those retainers each night.  8)

There seems to be divided opinion about how often to wear retainers.  My ortho said after the first 9 months to just wear them at night once every 3 days, which is what I've done.

Oh, and MDMom: I get the impression that you're a very giving person!  I'm glad you've re-discovered something that makes you happy that you can give to yourself.  Rock on, momma!  8)

I went back to university at 28, became a teacher at 30, and a wannabe documentary maker at 32 (still at it, five years later... this is the year, people!) ... now, at 37, I think the world is open to so many amazing opportunities, and the only limits really are... 'the limits of the imagination'.

Excellent thread North!

We are never to old to dream and acheive within our own talents.  When we lose those dreams.  Might as well say, life is over.

...to study at university. I started my degree at 28 and at 46 enrolled in my Masters.
...go to concerts and see emerging new bands (where the members are at least half your age).
...take up exercise and get fit. After 4 years at the gym, I'm fitter than I was 10 or 15 years ago.
...travel and see the world. I spent 4 weeks in Camdodia and Vietnam last year and want to do more.

PS: I have a friend who is 48 and got her braces last year. She is so cute the way she lisps with them in  ;)

my dr. said they used to tell people six to 12 months - so if you had braces back in the '80s or '90s that's what you were told.  Now they're promoting longer wear.....or so HE said

that is one thing I can say I don't do in braces....and happy about it let me tell you!  But very cool about her - guess I'm not the only one.  Good for you on your achievements too!  Hubby and I joined a gym just this year after 3 years of fitness bootcamp.

I also saw U2 in concert for the first (and second) times last year.....
