11. Stand Up Comedy

The only thing that separates us from being completely solid in our views of all things U2  ;)

In chronological order:

1. With A Shout
2. Stranger In A Strange Land
3. The Refugee
4. Red Light
5. Elvis Presley And America
6. Trip Through Your Wires
7. God Part II
8. Miami
9. The Playboy Mansion
10. Mofo (although I've been SLIGHTLY liking the song a little more recently.  Not nearly enough to say I like it yet)
11. Stand Up Comedy

I've probably mentioned this before to you, but I can understand all your dislikes except God II.  :D

Any reason for that selection?

2. Fast Cars - Completely ruined HTDAAB.
3. Peace On Earth - Not a fan of the mumbling vocals and the lyrics aren't Bono's greatest.
4. Grace - Too slow and never builds up any momentum.
6. The First Time - Not experimental enough to be released on Zooropa and too ballad-esque also.
7. Hakwmoon 269 - By far the worst studio song on Rattle And Hum.
8. One Step Closer - Ruins the pace of HTDAAB by being too contemplative. Would have worked better on ATYCLB.
9. Numb - Complicated lyrics that you can't really hear distract the attention from an otherwise musically sound track.
10. I Fall Down - A song that doesn't know what it wants to be. Is it a rock song or a piano driven ballad? Who knows?
12. Red Light - Another song with Edge nowhere to be seen. It gives the impression of a rocking Blues track but it fails to live up to expectations.

15. Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World - Weak song that is poorly placed on Achtung Baby. It disrupts the flow from The Fly and MW by being a three minute interlude before the final trio gets underway. Deserved to be on a different, more relaxed album.
oh Fly *facepalm*

It just bores me and it feels so out of place.  Bono over-sings and is clearly trying to "force" the song in my opinion.  It's almost like it feels disingenuous  :-\

I weep when I think that SUC made the album instead of Every Breaking Wave or Winter.  I weep when I think that it took them 18 months to make the song and it still came out the way it did.  Tragedy  :P

Just out of curiosity, do any of you Numb non-fans like Down All the Days?

I love Down All Days... And do not like Numb. :) but I understand why Numb was on Zooropa and I wouldn't change it's position there. It was really experimental for U2 and a lot more representative of the time. So I appreciate it artistically.

1. Elvis Presley and America - Probably the biggest dud on any U2 album. It's amazing how this made the cut, but Love Comes Tumbling didn't.
2. Fez - Being Born - Could've been a wonderful song without the bizarre intro and the lawnmower noises in the chorus.
3. The Refugee - For whatever reason, I've never liked it at all.
4. 4th of July - Far too much of a sketch to be included on an album. It just seems like there's no effort in it.
5. Miami - The only reason why this isn't higher is because it's so bad that it's hilarious.

U2 don't really have many terrible songs. I probably couldn't come up with a #6.

You know, I dont know why Elvis Presley And America gets such a bad rap. I just listened to this song moments ago (cuz I'm listening to all of TUF) and I think it's actually quite nice and moody with the rest of the album. Whatever. I like all the songs on TUF.

I know Eno wanted Bono to sing whatever came up to mind at the time when they recorded it, but I always found it a bit sluggish.

Not a bad track, but not great

The whole album is really a stream of consciousness.

I think that song most than others though.

It's hard for me to understand what Bono is saying most of the time in that track.
