No thank you. U2 is Bono, Larry, Adam, and Edge - they don't need any outside input or help.

Definitely not.  As far as I'm concerned, our boys are the best in the business.  Nobody can write lyrics like Bono therefore he would never need anyone else's help.  Bono helping others with lyrics? yes, he has done this in the past.

Unknown Caller is a testament to the fact that when U2 seeks outside help for lyrics, things go awry.

Who was the collaborator for UC?

On one song, Bono gives special thanks to Noel Gallagher. I think it's One Step Closer.

From what I've read, Bono wrote UC and OSC with no outside help

Noel didn't help write the song, but he did inspire it. He and Bono were talking about Bono's father a little while after he passed away, and Bono asked something like, "I wonder if he believes in heaven" (probably not that), and Noel replied (something like), "He's one step closer to knowing".

Oh, here's what SongFacts says about it:

Bono and Noel Gallagher of Oasis talked about how Bono's father wasn't really a religious person and Noel told Bono that he was "One step closer to knowing" when he died. Bono decided to write this song about his late father because of the conversation.

I thought Lanois and Eno helped write the lyrics to UC.

Well, i'd be open to writing maybe 1 song with another great rock n roll artist. There was nothing wrong with Bono asking Bob Dylan to help him finish Love Rescue Me. If he had Springsteen, Dylan, N. Young, D. Bowie, or M. Jagger help him i'd have no problem with it.

Then it must drive you nuts that Brian Eno and Danny Lanois are heavily involved with song arrangements,

But that's the technique, the "musicality" of their music. The four of them still originate the musical ideas themselves.
Besides, I'm talking about lyrics. Bono's fine by himself; I shudder to think who he'd turn to for collaboration in his quest for "relevence." I do NOT want to see "U2 ft. LMFAO" credited on the next album. :P

Shhhhh don't give them any ideas.

Because you know with the way Bono's talking he just might go "LMFAO! They're TOTALLY relevant!"
