U2 > The Music
Which heavy metal song should U2 cover?
ITM:
Last track of NLOTH Bono says to choose one's enemies wisely because they'll define you, and since Deep Purple seems like a worthy "metal" enemy given Bono's note of criticism on the band , I think this tune is something U2 could wrap their imagination around:

JTBaby:
what were Bono's criticisms ?
Richie Blackmore has to be the biggest douchebag ever to work with. The night they are filming a live DVD he decides to walk on stage halfway through the song, play like crap, throw water at a cameraman and generally have a hissy fit all night.

Some of the interviews were funny, they knew they were in for a bad night apparently when earlier in day he was arguing with the rest of the band that Eric Clapton couldn't play guitar.

Nothing serious and likely flippant. I was just recalling an interview/meeting Bono had with the Russian PM/President(?) where he noted the difference that he (Bono) liked Led Zeppelin and the politician Deep Purple.
Just inserted the comment given the general enmity between U2 and "metal", as a way to bind the thread and some tangible reference.

Well, Bono was right and the politician was wrong!
Fist-O:
Funny thing I keep reading is how U2 can't pull off the bass lines or solos. I believe they can 'cause there are hints of metal in 'Bullet the Blue Sky' and 'Hold Me Thrill Me.'
