I can't wait on the next tour for U2 to do an acoustic version of My Humps and Fireworks. Yeah that is gonna be awesome.

Maybe U2 is working with Falk to help him write some songs and not the other way around.  I don't think we should freak out about this.  Until there is solid news on the new album, everything is just a rumor.

I like this theory much, much better.

I also wondered about this. If U2's commercial viability is slipping then it would make sense for them to start a production house writing songs for other artists and working with producers.
Although the lyrics on NLOTH would suggest that Bono is out of touch with the target audience, so maybe working with somebody (Falk) who isn't would keep the green rolling in.

The green rolling in is not a problem for U2. Their back catalogue sells in the millions each year, so money will never be an issue. They could never release another album and still make millions per year.

Especially when they tour their back catalogue. ;)

Yeah, I'm more worried about him helping WRITE their songs, not produce. Didn't they start giving writing credits to Eno and Lanois on NLOTH?

Yeah, but they could've done that with Eno and Lanois on any of the albums they worked with U2 on. Lanois and Eno contributed uncredited music to the band for all of their previous collaborations. The credit was just acknowledging what was already there.

So them crediting Eno and Lanois on NLOTH is a new thing, but that duo helping U2 arrange and compose music for the band is not.

Does an album producer define a sound or is it the band spurred on by a different studio manager? Likewise working with doesn't necessarily mean any material will see the light of day?

Well, The Edge is follicly challenged, but then we've known that for a while.

Meaning he sucked once he started churning out the "hits".    You get what you ask for.

No Jacket Required is a pretty good album if that's what you're into, so is Invisible Touch, and there were lots of hits on them.

You can write a great pop song that sounds innovative, but even if U2 do that, it won't chart because of it being good song, rather, because of their name value.

The majority of people who listen to the Top 100 could care less about originality.

Adele's rise to the top was probably because she was a different change of pace.

I think U2 are deemed "uncool" by too many for them to really score a top 10 hit again.

would the Irish Independent be considered a rag for posting a rags article?
