Jimmy Iovine-Lots to say about U2 in new Rolling Stone issue
wrldchamps04:
they've said before (more than once) that they'd like to record the album after they've toured them...because they've gotten a better 'feel" for the songs as the shows go on.....but (like lots of things they (Bono especially)say)...it hasn't and more than likely, never will.
--- Quote from: mattressjedi on April 09, 2012, 11:45:51 AM ---I'd love it if they recorded the album, polished it up all finished, then set the release date back.
Then rehearsed and then toured those NEW songs and THEN released the album.
Do the opposite. Tour the album before its release.
Almost like GNR did way back during the Use your Illusion Tour.

If there had been some discipline and fat-trimming imposed on MOS, maybe. The song was waaayyyy tooooo loooonngg. Putting MOS and Unknown Caller back to back absolutely ruins the flow of No Line. They create a giant bloated speed bump that kills all momentum achieved by the title track and Magnificent.

I think MOS would have been better suited as the last song on the CD--it just does not fit as track 3 and every time I listen to NLOTH, I'm always surprised that it's track 3 and not, say, track 11. I'm not sure how much fat could be trimmed from the song because the song is clearly meant to be a somewhat long ballad. But the song has never really seemed that long to me because each part of the song just seems to fit.

I dont think the track is too long. Not in any way. But it's the placement on the album that is the killer for me. It should've been last, or next to last. It's really a great song, but in the context of the album it suffers because it's up front.
I've thought before how great it could have been if theyd put both versions of NLOTH as bookends and then had the Lanois/Eno stuff in between.
