Get on Your Boots may have ruined U2

I will also point out for the millionth time that the Vertigo Tour experienced hemorrhaging of HTDAAB tracks by the end as well.
To me, NLOTH was a huge artistic success. Moment of Surrender, White As Snow, Fez - Being Born, and Cedars of Lebanon were very non-mainstream and experimental.

I'm not saying 360's financial success was a good or a bad thing - it was just a thing. Although for my money U2 are more concerned with financial success than artistic success.
As for NLOTH I didn't mention low sales - you did citing sales and $$$$$ as a measure of success. I don't care about either, just artistic merit.
I'm glad you like NLOTH - personally I can't take a man seriously anymore who writes lyrics about taking oranges from a tank. I'd agree fez/being born is the best thing on the record.

Fez - Being Born is grossly overrated. I merely cite it as an example of U2 being experimental. Cedars is a brilliant song. The line clearly comes from somewhere, as it's so random. Bono must have witnessed something like that.
I guess you're more a fan of the Bono that says "baby baby baby" twenty-seven times in a row, talks endlessly about it being alright, or moles digging in holes? Bono has far more dumb lyrics than one line in Cedars.

If you believe bono has been anywhere near a tank in a war zone then I'm an orange. He's more likely to be found mixing it with models in saint tropez. Or buying Gucci sunglasses in Capri.
You're quite correct, the lyrics to Elevation are superb. Nearly as good as the lyrics to GOYB.

Maybe not in person, but in a photo, perhaps. Or in a story related to him by someone. A person doesn't just conjure up an odd image like that out of nowhere.
If you have such a low opinion of Bono, I ask you: "Why are you here?"

It's possible it's not a very good lyric. Even as an impression it's not very good.
Anyhow, I don't have a low opinion of bono exactly - but for those of us that knew the old U2, I feel a bit short changed by the band. Maybe they've always been money obsessed and slightly fraudulent but they did a pretty good impression of not being once.
When I was growing up I was really drawn to the band as they seemed to stand for something good. They had a social conscience and championed the causes I was into. ie amnesty and greenpeace. I found them genuinely exciting when they did ZOO TV and POPMART too.
I don't know what happend post POP but everything seemed to change with the band and not for the better.
Aside from the fact their musical output has deteriorated badly, I can't stand bono as a public figure any more. I'm sure he's a very nice man in person but his public image is unbelievably irritating. Much has been said about him hanging out with Blair and Bush during the Iraq debacle. That was the beginning of the end as far as I was concerned - many others felt the same, including his fellow band members it would seem.
I still care enough about the old U2 to bother visiting this forum. Hell, I even think they could go back to being a genuinely great band if they concentrated on the music, bono took a good look at his public image and they stopped caring about being 'relevant'.

You're delusional. Greatest hits tour or not. 700+ million = a hit.
Keep trying though. It's entertaining.

It may have been a $$$$$$$$$$ hit but it certainly wasn't an artistic hit. I don't know about you but I'm more concerned with the quality of art a band produces rather than how many records or tickets they sell.
Are you into Celine Dion? 3m people went to see her 'taking chances tour'. I'd say that makes that tour a hit in commercial terms but one might question the artistic integrity of it.
You need to get over the size thing - I'm told it's not important
