Get on Your Boots may have ruined U2

It was a shockingly bad song and no mistake. Things were looking bad when bonbon started wearing eye liner in publicity shots. However, a crap single doesn't mean a crap album. Unfortunately NLOTH was patchy at best. And the tour was totally meaningless in terms of a concept.
I don't think it ruined the band. They've been successfully doing that since ATYCLB. Artistically NLOTH was another nail in the coffin.
Singles can be important. Making brilliant albums is more important and they've stopped doing that - perhaps their boy band efforts will bear more fruit

I've heard they've sacked Baron Greenback and hired Louis Walsh as their new manager.

But that means all 4 members will have to have do sex with Louis - quite an exciting thought, I'm sure you'll agree

It means their next lead single is going to be a cover of From a Distance.

Or Boys Boys Boys (I'm looking for a good time). Larry will be first as he's the prettiest

I'm going to disagree with you here. Get on Your Boots isn't nearly awful. It's not great, some may not like it, but it's not bad. As a lead single, it was unexpected, unlike U2, and fairly conclusive at doing the one thing a single ought to do: give attention to the album.
No Line On The Horizon's poor sales were imo mostly caused by the dying CD business, the fact that U2 is a 30 year old rock band, and that it's very much hype to hate them, Boots' music video, Bono's marketing campaign, the way too high expectations of everybody, and the worst second single ever: Magnificent. As a second single, it was a lame attempt to show that U2 was still U2, only Magnificent is nowhere near as good as classic U2 songs such as Streets or even Beautiful Day.
As for U2 being ruined, the 360° tour was a total hit, which I think some would dare rank their second best tour ever (I know I would).
Now, that's out there.

360 wasn't a hit - it was a Greatest Hits Tour that appealed to the lowest common denominator - the lazy U2 fan that might own a greatest hits album and the Joshua Tree. Why do you think they dropped most songs from the album? For the same reason they dismissed POP. And for the same reason the declared ATYCLB was going back to basics. All they're interested in now is mass appeal. Maybe that's all they ever cared about but I, for one, honestly believed there was more to them than that.
Droo:
360 WAS a hit. The top grossing tour in history can't be classified as anything other than a hit. Stop letting your frothy rage against NLOTH distort your perception of reality.
