Boston seems like a wonderful place. So does Halifax.

I'm not crazy about cities, too noisey.  But, my vote is for NYC.

Hmmm, difficult to pick just one.  It is interesting to read some of the cities listed in the most over rated city thread, because I love London, Paris and NYC.  So much of that is shaped by having great travel experiences, however the reality of living somewhere can be quite different.
I'm going throw Hanoi into the mix because it seemed to offer up so many surprises.  It is quite the different from other very large Asian cities, and the lingering influence of French colonialism has left some very interesting quirks.  (Of course this means a whole lot more than "quirks" to the Vietnamese people, but I am trying to be objective about how it has shaped the city).

Bangkok, Thailand is always a favorite of mine to explore  :)

I'd love to delve deeply into its treasures. :)

5 Dollar I love you longtime

they're really lovely people you know, just trying to make a living.

My vote's for Brisbane, though it feels more like a country town than a city.

I have a love hate relationship with Brisbane, and one of the reasons I get irritated by the place is because it can't decide whether it wants to be a city or a big country town, and I guess this could be a good thing if balanced well, but I wonder whether Brisbane really carries it off.  I also get annoyed when a gorgeous (inside and out) building such as GOMA, which sits prettily in the bend of the river is ruined by having the Kurilpa bridge plonked front and centre.  I'm not sure what the designers were on when they decided it was a good idea to model a bridge on a medieval torture device!
All that said, Brisbane does have many redeeming features :)

Glasgow or Edinburgh are cool places

Prague is a really great place to visit too

I dig scotland the most. Skye is nearly my favourite place on earth

If you like Skye so much...the whole of the Scottish West Coast would appeal to you. Its really gorgeous over there.

Salzburg - a fairy tale come to life. I've only ever been there once and only for 2.5 days, but it was blissful. A lovely honeymoon could be had here and in the neighboring towns. Perfect.

London and NYC for true have it all cities, definitely. The people were very nice in both cities. Been to London twice, NYC at least once a year the past several years.

Rome.  I didn't fall in love with it until my second visit when we stayed in Trastevere - a true neighborhood a short walk into the city center. I yearn for it.

However, there are still many cities I'd love to visit...

Portland
Seattle
DC
Boston

Those are the best that I've been to.

Philadelphia is easily the worst.

Philadelphia is easily the worst.

It is a beautiful city. My first city and hometown for the very early part of my life. I had always wanted to go to Paris and finally, aged 40, I did. Love that city too. DC reminds me very much of Paris which makes sense since L'Enfant was French. What's great about both those cities is how much atmosphere one can have and how many indoor and outdoor activities are available for FREE.

Last summer, I had the chance to visit Chicago for the first time. (Loved it, but it closes down WAY too early at night.) It reminded me of a mix of DC and NYC. And, oddly enough, the drive into Chicago reminded me of driving into Miami. Where the Port of Miami is the skyline seemed similar.

Love Hamilton, Bermuda, as well, but it's not a city on the same scale. Venice was magical too, but spent less than 24hrs. there, so don't know if it would have grown on me or lessened in stature. I'd love to go back, though.

Manyunck/Roxborough is a very nice section of North West Philadelphia.  I have family roots there that go back to 1805.

The Mall area of DC is gorgeous, espcially when the Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom.

The new WWII Memorial is stunning, especially at night and the memorials are all open, including bathrooms, to midnight in the summer. Perfect for atmospheric, inexpensive dates.

Yes, it is.  Though I didn't get to see it at night.  I took a day bus trip.

Try driving less than 5 minutes outside the mall area though...you'll change your mind.

yea Seattle is greatness

Was that the one day in history that it didn't rain?

stayed there a week and it didn't rain once

Yes, Seattle has happily had a lack of rain this year! ;D

And I'd second you Horizon, I've been to a few of the major US Cities (San Fran, LA, NYC, DC, Portland, Denver, Nashville), and NONE compare to Seattle. It's big enough to have the "city" feel, but not too massive so that it a) is completely overrun with traffic (at least when it's not rush hour, but that's unavoidable anywhere), or b) has massive amounts of crime.

In fact, I think Seattle's gritty little sister Tacoma has a worse crime rate than Seattle, which is strange, since Tacoma's half the size. But with the prominent exception of one ghetto neighborhood (which is tucked away and hard to find), Seattle is surprisingly upper-middle class and very beautiful.

Not to mention we have the cool, ironic, Brooklyn-style hipsters, not the annoying, folk-listening, environmental ones that are in Portland.
I thought Pioneer square was the ghetto neighborhood?? Ken Hamlin got beat over the head with a stop sign there..
