12' singles have the best low end possible for vinyl, because the grooves can be cut wider. There's a small essay (just a few paragraphs, really) by Martin Birch in the liner notes of Iron Maiden's Live After Death album where he explains the physics of mastering an album for vinyl LP format and how the amount of time per side affects the final product.

I'd love to hear the 2-LP version of Pop on vinyl. At 15 minutes or so per side, the low end must be thunderous.

The Unforgettable Fire, by a long way.

Not just the sound, but the way Side A and Side B just work. That album does it better than any others I can think of by any artist.

Promenade/4th July back to back on CD are a bit of a lull. As the wind down of side a and slow build to side b, there's none better.

It sounds absolutely great, the bass is of course the dominant instrument on that album, and it sounds better than the CD, but lets be careful not to overhype vinyl, as you need a decent amp and pair of speakers to be able to enjoy the details with any data carrier.
Also Pop's flow and dramatic arch is considerably lessened by being cut into four three-song sides, and it was one of the few cases where I didn't prefer the vinyl to the CD.

I have Achtung Baby on red vinyl, does anyone know if this could be a pirate copy or were there genuine red vinyl pressings of this? It looks pretty legit to me, but I'm not sure.

My other half got me it for Christmas when I got my turntable as Achtung Baby is my favourite U2 album, and possibly my favourite album of all time. I own all U2 albums on CD, but there's just something special about putting on that red vinyl. Even if it's a pirate I'll still love it.

This is a very true statement. UF is the most perfect album on vinyl with JT a very close second.

The only "legit" coloured LP I know of is the Aussie red vinyl of Under A Blood Red Sky. There are loads of coloured ones that seem to late night in the pressing plant when the boss has gone home jobs, mainly from Sweden.

A have a copy of the red AB too. It's counterfeit. And it sounds crap.

After spending some time listening to my new vinyl records, I couldn't agree more.  For me, it's like a whole new way experiencing music.  The U2 albums I purchased were Boy, War, and The Joshua Tree.  I am really impressed with all three.

There were concerns it would appeal to pedophiles in the US so they changed the cover for that market, much to the chagrin of catholic priests.

My favorites are the Unforgettable Fire and The Joshua Tree.  There is a subtleness and perfectness to the timbre of the instrumentation that just works with both those albums on Vinyl.  The sequencing on the UF is nice because it works better for vinyl than CD, but that is relative and I think I prefer the JT.  I just love the way Streets, With or Without You, Running to Standstill, One Tree Hill, and Mothers sounds on vinyl.
