Best Surprise Guest You've Ever Seen in Concert
« on: May 10, 2012, 11:11:55 AM »
Bono's recent appearance with Glen Hansard made me think back to the times I've been lucky enough to see a surprise guest in concert. If I had to narrow it down, I think the two times that were most exciting for me were Brandon Flowers appearing in Vegas with U2 during Vertigo for "In a Little While" and Mike McCready jumping on stage with Cheap Trick in Tacoma, Wash. for "Surrender."

What are your favorite surprise experiences? U2 or otherwise...

I've never had any. Every time I see U2 in NJ, I hope that Bruce shows up, but only sometimes he's mentioned as being in the audience.

On the Elevation tour, they had Daniel Lanois do something with them, but that's not a huge stretch for U2 fans (nothing against Daniel).

Carlos Santana showing up at a Dave Matthews Band show in San Francisco 8 years ago.  I was never a huge fan of him, but it made for some nice guitar solos.

When Kings of Leon opened for U2 Eddie Vedder came on stage and sang a song with them. When I saw Aerosmith Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue played Helter Skelter with them.

She was on crutches due to a ski accident. A kind bouncer took pity "stuck" us in the guest area by the soundboard where we could sit (standing only venue). Couldn't quite believe wo we were sat next to. Exchanged a few fawning words, but left them alone.

See that is the most respectful thing to do. Kudos :)

You were there? I just watched the DVD of that show again the other night. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For with Springsteen was epic.
