Cleaned Up Studio North Star [Partial]
The Unknown Caller:
I hadn't seen a thread out there about this yet so I thought I'd make it.
The two minutes or so of a studio 'North Star' that slipped into Transformers last year in horrendous quality buried by vocals and chatter has been cleaned up to basically perfect quality, so... yeah, two minutes of pure, clean, studio North Star, layers and all. This version was produced by RedOne, so a sign of what might have been.

Sounds quite good to me. :)

JamietheEdgefan:
I have to say, i really dislike this song. The acoustic version played on tour was bland to me (particularly the lyrics - "for your love" is just autopilot Bono, and given there was a song on the very last album with the exact same lyric - SuC - plus the similar "only love" from magnificent, it seems extra lazy).
The layers of strings, piano and that 'echo drum' in this version just pile on the cheesiness... it just sounds like a syrupy sweet, overtly dramatic power ballad, with no genuine emotion or bite.
And Edge seems to be carrying on like a session musician here, playing the most dull riffs... I'm all for minimalism, but he doesn't seem to be trying anything particularly clever or new in terms of riffs and melodies. He seems content to just take a backseat and not play anything memorable. I want some more iconic riffs like Streets, Mysterious ways, hell even Beautiful day or vertigo... he's supposed to be a lead guitarist, not a rhythm guitarist!
I really, truly hope NS doesn't make it on to the next album, or at least, if it does, that it's transformed (see what i did there) a lot. Granted, this is a short clip, without full quality, and it could change, but from what i've heard so far, i'm pretty unimpressed...
