What about when you have a DVD that's non-anamorphic (meaning it's not supported for HDTVs) or the DVD looks really bad?

By the way, the other day I almost bought Good Will Hunting on Blu-Ray and now I'm glad I didn't because Miramax is double dipping it*!

Blu-Ray.com is a great site, BTW. (free plug)

*Double Dipping is a term meaning when a studio releases a movie and then releases a special edition with more special features and other stuff shortly after the first release.

it was screened once in theaters in la last year and i read its coming out this year. my guess is around the time Django Unchained comes out. Q takes his sweet ass time but always comes thru. Hell, Inglourious Basterds was rumored to be happening since Jackie Brown came out

Jackie was 97. Basterds was 09
Kill Bill was 03 maybe this will only be a 9 year wait.

I'm thinking about importing the Jurassic Park Blu Ray from the UK since it's only available in the trilogy pack in the US.

Don't you need a higher resolution screen to enjoy the benefits of BR? I've looked at some in-store presentations, and some of them looked pretty bad, like pixel graphics. Is that due to a mismatch of display/original recorded picture resolution and playback medium?

Taking into consideration that BR discs are way overpriced at the moment, I'm not sure I want to switch over from DVDs at all. I'm okay with DVD picture and sound quality.
In the UK....Blu Ray Discs have come way down in price in a short period of time. Im looking at buying the Aliens Quadrilogy (6 disc set). It will only cost me £16 :)

We've gotten a lot of Hitchcock movies released on Blu-Ray (in the US at least) this year. Paramount released To Catch a Thief, Criterion released The 39 Steps (and The Lady Vanishes in Dec. 2011), MGM released Notorious, Spellbound and Rebecca, and now Universal is bringing out an Alfred Hitchcock Blu-Ray box set (all of the movies in the set are new to Blu except Psycho and North by Northwest) and Warner Bros. is bringing out Dial M For Murder (in 3D!) and Strangers on a Train. Awesome!

Yes, and you'll need a 3D TV and a 3D capable Blu-Ray player (if you don't have those yet). But it will also come with the 2D version (I don't have a 3D TV myself).

I wasn't planning on spending that much to see Grace Kelly in her nightie in 3D. :(
