Here are highlights:
When asked about the current state of pop music, Bono feels there’s a place for everyone.
“I think that the world needs all music, and if you’ve got a great song on the radio your day is just better for it,” he says. “We need pop music. It’s a big thing in the world.
“Rock radio plays us, and every so often we’re on pop radio. We love to be on pop radio. Because, you know, when you’re walking down the street or getting out of a taxi and you hear songs coming out of a boutique or whatever, you can just feel the pulse of a city."
U2 is hardly through with making more of their own moments. Bono talks excitedly about recent studio work and a fruitful collaboration with Brian Burton, better known as Danger Mouse, half of the former duo Gnarls Barkley with Cee-Lo Green.
I think U2 are on the right direction, and on the road to recovery after the massive failure that was No Line On The Horizon. A successful 360 Tour that was so big was the only thing that was able to conceal U2's worst studio effort since they hit it big.
With Danger Mouse, and a commitment to being on the radio, I think U2 are going to go places with their next album. They just got to keep their foot on the pedal and not hold back.
Anyone share the same excitement about the next U2 release?
Cheers,

I think it depends on whether you think Crazy Tonight is a good song or not. I mean, wasn't that a real attempt at pop radio? For my part, I don't want my rock stars singing about rainbows and starlight and ponies (there was a pony in there somewhere, wasn't there?), but I know a lot of people love that song. but for all the love it gets, the culture didn't even look up from their iPhones.

More aprehension than pure excitement. At this point my hope is that Burton can curb Bono's instincts to be universally loved and accepted. But then, we all know what happens to potential U2 producers not named Steve, Brian, or Danny.
JTBaby:
Worst piece of news I've heard yet about the "new album".
I liked U2 better when they didn't give a flying f*** if they got played on the radio.
Pulse of a city defined what's on pap radio ? Bono, you are now officially a douchebag.

What's a radio?

maybe...but I'm old enough to remember when songs like "Planet Rock", "The Show", "Friends In Low Places" and "Alive" were like the f-ing national anthem or something, you heard 'em in so many places. I don't think that happens as much (if at all) any more (the last time was probably with "Milkshake"), but I'd like to think that it still could.
