What if you're interested in their families for the person, though? For example, Eve is an actress and Ali has done stuff with fashion, like Edun... and Morleigh is a dancer. So what if you're interested in their work, and they just happen to be married/related to U2 in some way? That's not creepy, is it? That's why I'm interested in the band member's families- because what they do also interests me.

I find it quite unerving, the level some people take it to. I dare say...had Ali, Morleigh, Eve and co, all been doing what they are doing...but werent linked to u2, i suspect  many people wouldnt pay one iota of attention to the people in question.
Where do you draw the line. Theres even fans out there who have threads for Bonos Bodyguard....thats plain OTT sycophantic behaviour. Some people fawn over ANYTHING that has the least possible link to u2. I suspect thats the sort of fan behaviour that Edge himself described as creepy

Hmm. I understand where you're coming from, but I don't quite agree... I guess I like to think that U2 helped these people discover others, but their fascinations over them doesn't have to do with U2. At least I hope not.

Well, "they" are Smee and Satellitedog01.  On page 2, Smee says that he finds it "creep" when fans take an interest in the band's personal lives.  And, the title says that Bono recorded A Lady Gaga song WITH Ali, you know, his wife, and dedicated it to Eve, you know his daughter.  It does not say that he actually recorded a song with Lady Gaga, so it's obviously not related to U2's music, but to Bono's personal life.

But, whatever and I don't even know whay I bothered, because I have been on this forum long enough to know that those of us who like ALL aspects of the band are looked down on by those who feel they are better than everyone else because "they're only in it for the music."

I'm not sure if it's worth arguing, but I don't think anyone was claiming to be better than anyone else by making those statements. We're all equal here, regardless of what we like about the band and why we follow them.

Was debating on whether to jump in here, and will probably regret it, but. . . I've posted in the Ali thread, and the Bono's bodyguard thread, and Lord knows multiple times in the Edge thread, and all the other bend members' for that matter, so if that makes me creepy, well, I've been called worse.  The bodyguard thread I see as all in good fun, he's an attractive man, sure I wouldn't know of him if it weren't for Bono, but then I wouldn't have read The  Executioner's Song or wathced Wim Wenders films except for Bono, either.

Oh, and you forgot the Edge's guitar tech thread, I definitely am a creeper there.  Mmmm, Dallas. . .

As for Ali, I admire her as a strong, independent woman (my age, btw), who has managed to make a rock 'n roll marriage work for nearly 30 years.  Again, if posting in her thread makes me a creeper, then guilty as charged.

To me, it doesn't rise to the level of creepy unless you think you and the creeped-upon have a special connection.  Till then, like I said, I view it as all in good fun.

And, this discussion reminds me of a bit that the comedian Jim Gaffigan had in one of his comedy specials. He talked about how it's awkward if you run into someone you know at a McDonald's. Because NO ONE eats McD's, right? And yet...billions and billions have been served and you never see one close down. So you make up stuff--"going to the ATM."
But the truth is "everyone has their McDonald's." Maybe you read "People" magazine. Maybe you drink waffle flavored vodka (yes it apparently exists).
Maybe you read about Bono's bodyguard.

I bet all the members of U2 do something at home that others might consider weird. 

Finally, most of the posts here seem to be from people who don't know each other very well offline. I know there are exceptions but in general you likely have no idea what a person might be dealing with in life and maybe this or that silliness or being "creepy" by looking at or discussing some aspect of the band that YOU don't find interesting is a way of staying sane somehow. If someone was posting about following a band member around (in seriousness) or breaking into their house, or some other illegal or invasive activity, that would be another matter. In fact, I think quite a few voiced their displeasure at seeing certain photos of private events posted here.
