The other day I was talking to a friend who is highly involved in the One foundation. He told me he knows people inside U2's tour planning, and that they are preparing for an indoor arena tour starting next spring. I honestly have no idea how legit my friend's sources are but he's a trustworthy guy, so it gives me hope for an early release in 2013.

Over about 15 years of having the internet, i have lost count of the amount of times i have heard these types of SOMEONE KNOWS SOMEONE tales on u2 sites. 95% of the time, to put any faith in them, proves to be folly

Hi Smee

I do know someone who has worked on the road with U2 since the JT era. Over the years he has introduced me to Dallas (top bloke) and got me signed picks from the band and passed me many of his tour personnel clothing. However, I asked him to tell me a secret once and what he revealed shattered around 20 years of what I thought I knew about the band.
He is currently on tour with another artist so I would be unable to ask if the new album quotes are true.

I will get the skinny on this as soon as I can.

What did he tell you? I'm very curious to what he had to say.
same.

Found it!  :)

So it wasn't about The Clash at all! It was always about Jackie Chan! My thoughts have sure been shattered.

Edge's facial expressions are perfect  ;D

I think this next album needs a little more funk. No Line on the Horizon is a good album to listen to on a quiet, rainy day. It's a little too serious. Achtung Baby and Pop were serious in their own way, but the albums are fun, too.

I can't imagine U2 doing "fun" at their age. :-\ Maybe I'm thinking too much of Top Forty pop hits in regards to fun... Still, even the "fun" styles from Achtung Baby and Pop (Discotheque, Even Better Than The Real Thing) would be an odd style for them to go back to.

I really hope they branch out and do something unsafe again, I think that's where they really live and thrive.

I sure hope so. Though I think Bono would be too afraid to be as daring as they were with Achtung Baby and Pop. Is Bono willing to sacrifice his ego to break out of their comfort zone? Hopefully he is.

Achtung baby was anything but safe, and look where it got them. They still have a big enough fan base that they can pull a risk or 2 and still be fine

I mean, if that were the case, I don't see why U2 wouldn't. They have a very supportive fan base, as taking more risks would be more than welcomed. I still think U2's relationship with their actual fan base has been poor in recent years. It seems as if they don't care what we think (such as the absurd notion that we wouldn't want to hear Acrobat at one of their shows. What??)or even know the pulse of the fans at all. Also, I feel like if they were more daring, the mainstream wouldn't appreciate it as much as opposed to something that was safe and tailored to that group of people. I really hope I'm wrong, and U2 breaks the mold with this album. They're at an important moment in their careers whether fans realize it or not.

I can. It goes like this:

"I know I'll go crazy, I know I'll go crazy, I know I'll go crazy, I know I'll go crazy, I know I'll go crazy if I don't go crazy tonight!"

Achtung Baby was when they gained a new generation of fans...me among them.  Imagine where I would be if they never made that album..

NLOTH had fun songs, it's just that they weren't very good.

^^That's more like it :D I'm not talking "Numb" or "Mofo", but something with some vigor that leaves you feeling alive at the end. "Gone" does it for me every time. They're not as old and "irrelevant" as some may think, you know? After seeing 360, I'm convinced of that.
