Simple Minds 2000ís output has been great.  Last two albums in particular!  Seeing them on this North American tour.

Yes. I've followed Simple Minds since the early days - New Gold Dream (1982) etc.  They are a fantastic band and I agree their 2000's output has been great!  Love it, that they are still at it.  Jim Kerr has always been a favorite of mine.  I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't explored their back catalogue to do it.  There are some real gems.

Here's a great resource to follow new music releases for 2018.  In fact, NME puts out a list every year.  It's a great way to also discover new bands.  I use it regularly, to get some checks in there between my only real steady listening of U2.  Good stuff!

Thanks for the link.  Rock is far from dead.  I think some people feel let down  by the fact that it isnít dominant in pop culture anymore and donít realize how much good music there is out there.

I've been at it since I was 5 yrs. old, in 1965, where I put my initials on all of my older brothers original Beatles 45s'.  He has never forgiven me for that and I completely understand why.  The 45s' are practically worthless now with my initials scrawled on each one.  But, I diverge...

Rock 'n Roll will never die, like you said "far from dead".  There is something so pure about a rock lead guitarist, a bass player, drummer, and vocalist that will never be extinguished.  I could spend another lifetime exploring the rock 'n roll past and the future.  It will never end even if pop culture will try to kill it.  It can't be killed, it's too important.

Yes, thanks for the link.  I love music discovery and even use NME but somehow missed that concise link.  I love Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and didn't know they had a new record this year.

There is definitely a lot of music out there to be found.  Discovery is like a double-edge sword these days.  So many resources to find new music but so many it's hard to go through everything.  Always looking for the curator with similar tastes which is one reason I like this thread.  If I like 3-4 songs on a post, and don't know the other 1-2, I often go check them out.

Found a playlist on Spotify that very much mirrors my own playlist, with a few nice additions that I hadn't heard before.
Some bangers that come to mind are:
Somewhere Only We Know - Keane
1979 - Smashing Pumpkins
Linger - The Cranberries
No Rain - Blind Melon
Kashmir - Led Zeppelin

Yeah I know Led Zeppelin isn't really the genre of the others, but Jesus Kashmir is a work of art. Been playing it on repeat for about half an hour.

Led Zeppelin is a genre by itself.  Kashmir is a classic, timeless piece of music.
