U2 > General U2 Discussion

What songs SHOULD have been big u2 hits?

(1/8) > >>

codeguy:
U2 likes to have radio hits, yet some of their best songs have never been released, or have been poorly promoted.

Some, like Sunday, Bloody Sunday, were so good that they became hits even without release, but I think they have made a lot of mistakes over the years that cost them. Here are my faves for shouldda-been-radio-hits, what are yours?

1. The Electric Co (Instead of 11-o-clock)
2. Surrender (Instead of Two hearts)
3. Lady With the Spinning Head (should have been on Zooropa)
4. Until the end of the world (instead of wild horses)
5. Kite
6. Yahweh (Instead of ABOY)
7. Mercy (Should have been on HTDAAB or NLOTH)
8. Glastonbury (Shouldda just released it!!)
9. Electrical Storm (Should have been on ATYCLB)
10. North and South of the river (Should have been on ATYCLB)

What do you think?

So Cruel:
End of the World is a great song but isn't as commercial as Wild Horses and wouldnt be a hit.

North and South of the River was written before Pop and should have been on the Pop album, not ATYCLB.

Yahweh is a great song but wouldn't make a great single.

- I think Red Hill Mining Town could have been a big hit if they made a better video for it.

- I think the b-side version of No Line on the Horizon should have been the 1st single for No Line album

Dublin Dave:
That is a good question and not too dissimilar to one I posed last month.

Here a few of my thoughts
Tomorrow
Miracle Drug
Moment Of Surrender
a Sort Of Homecoming

Would be songs very worthy of a release as a single.  Some may argue they they aren't "radio-friendly " enough but that didn't stop The Fly being a huge hit

Dali:
North And South Of the River
Babyface
Boy Falls From the Sky
No Line On the Horizon
Love And Peace Or Else (the overlooked centerpiece of HTDAAB)

Thunder Peel:
No Line on the Horizon and Miracle Drug are two that really stand out to me. I think Breathe would have made for a solid single too.
