I was waiting for someone to post this. The amount of recent shootings is beyond ridiculous.

That's what happens when you put firearms into the hands of everyday citizens. Human beings are fragile, emotional, irrational creatures. It's never sat well with me that we equip them with the means to efficiently destroy each other.

Two young female police officers were killed yesterday after being gunned down in Gunchester.

Our 'strict' gun laws may have saved a life there because the police officers weren't armed and so were unable to defend themselves.

....your police officers aren't armed?

I'm vigorously opposed to arming of the general populace but I think it's unfathomable not to arm the law enforcement.

use radio/laser guns or something like that. That way it way it will make you shake for days on end and not kill you, but way more painful.

they've offered it to them but the police themselves have in the past preferred not to have them. i guess they feel it makes it less likely for criminals to think they'll need to use lethal force.

I think the idea is to give the police more of a community feel, rather than having a police state where law enforcement can be overbearing. Having said that, we do have armed police forces for more specialised situations and airport security etc.

and again its a decision the police  have taken themselves (at lrast it was a few years ago)
