Who would you most like to see open for U2?
« on: September 13, 2012, 07:16:51 AM »
My vote: Switchfoot (their live shows are outstanding and their energy reminds me of U2 in their early days) or Oasis.  It was a bummer to miss the show with Interpol in July 2011 in St Louis, but I heard second-hand that they were an excellent opening band.

Let's keep to current bands, if at all possible.

Now that Muse is probably too big to do it again, my 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices are all Metric.

I have seen the Pretenders open for many big acts- rocking and fun. I liked Lenny Kratvitz (sp?). He was a foot stomping fun opening act. Bonnie Raitt opened for the Rolling Stones and really liked that. Reggae bands (Toot and the Maytels) would be fun; though when Marley opened for U2  in 2005 for some shows I could not  get over having someone on stage that just waved a flag throughout- very weird.

I think they need to give better attention to the sound of the opening act. Distorted and not the proper mix for the bands- I think this is on purpose to make U2 sound better.

Yay! Another Switchfoot fan! Going to see them Sept. 26

Metric is terrific!

I'd say: Mutemath, Airborne Toxic Event, Joy Formidable, Gaslight Anthem, Silversun Pickups, Two Door Cinema Club

I'd really like to see the first two the most.

Interpol didn't get such good reviews for the closing US 360 date in Pittsburgh. I didn't pay much attention to them.

But, if they have to be a different style than U2, then most of these bands should not open for them. So, now, not sure... ::)

Switchfoot would be amazing.

Interpol was a ghastly opening band. The general mood of the inner circle at both Montreal concerts towards them was dismissive bordering on hostile.

Oh God no!

Vegas Elvis.  Thank you very much.

Then Bono and the King can see who can fit into the tightest jumpsuit.
