Has anyone heard anything about the next album?
« on: September 17, 2012, 08:51:53 AM »

Hello forum,

It's been a while since I've been on here, I thought I'd post this message in the hope some of you had heard something on the grapevine about a new U2 album. Has anything been confirmed date wise? I imagine if something was being released this year we would have heard about it already. 2013 is more likely, hard to believe it will be another 4 years since NLOTH.

What are you all expecting next?

Mercury said it would be 2013. Hopefully, it will be earlier rather than later. There's an article about it on the home page here. http://www.atu2.com/newalbum/

And, good to see you on here again. :)

Which one? If you listen to Bono there are about 34 in the works.

We may get one in 2013 but Im not so sure.

I'd guess that we'll get one in 2013, but probably by the end.

I think they will release the "Danger Mouse'' album in the fall of 2013 and maybe they will release a best of album (2000-2010) this year. Bono keeps on talking about wanting to be relevant but it's been almost three years since we've heard something new. According to Bono they are working on three different albums and they've got lots of songs. They should release an EP while we're waiting for the next album. It would make the fans very happy and it would get them some media attention, which would help them to stay relevant.

Yeah that would make a ton of sense and honestly no one would be able to complain.

I think whatever they will release next will be their last record. Call it Man and make it a killer album. Then take it on the road, arenas, small venues, blow the roof off every night, they don't need to go big again, they can't get bigger than 360. Elevation was such a great tour, it's obvious from every show on dvd.

Then once the arena shows are complete they should play minimal shows outdoors, major cities, finishing off in Dublin playing 3 final shows at Slane Castle. I can dream can't I?

Yeah, they should either do something like Coldplay, who released the Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall EP with three songs about 5 months before, or something like Green Day where they just release smaller albums more often. There's no reason to have to release an 11 song album or nothing at all other than arbitrary tradition (although I do like the fact that U2 works hard to make albums as complete works of art rather than just hodgepodge compilations).

Don't know, if the next album turns out to be a major disappointment they might, but I don't think so. I think Bono/U2 is going to some sort of phase right now. They will have to learn to accept that they are  older and will never be as popular again as they were during ZooTV or PopMart, those days are definately over. The world has moved on. Even if the new album turns out to be a masterpiece, they will get media attention, but that will only last a couple of weeks maximum and it won't attract a lot of new fans. So they can either accept the fact that to popkids nowadays they aren't all that relevant anymore, and never will be again, or they can quit..

I hope so.
But I don't think they will ever officialy retire, unless a bandmember dies.
I think they will go down the same road as the Rolling Stones.

I don't. They will know when the time is right.

well, they signed a 3-tour deal with LiveNation, no? One has already happened, one's coming up with the next album, and at least one more after that.

True.
And when they decide the time is right they will stop making music and stop touring but I don't think they will make it official. That way they keep all their options open should they ever want to do something in the future and their name lives on.
