Very lame to see Bono doing this, but what's even lamer is Diddy using the melody of Black Sabbaths "Iron Man" in this song.

First, it's not Diddy's song. It's a Kanye West track. Second, hip hop has a LOOONG and vibrant tradition of sampling music to make something new. So unless you're going to dismiss an entire genre of music...

I'll gladly dismiss it. It's awful, all of it. It's not even true music IMO. It's as shallow as a puddle.

Name 5 hip hop artists and I'll take your opinion seriously. With all due respect, if you're going to dismiss the work guys like of Gil Scott-Heron, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, and Tupac Shakur you're doing yourself a grave disservice. There's music out there other than U2 and Coldplay (haha) that's great, I promise!

Add Biggie Smalls and you got your 5. Take me seriously now ;) ? All crap and all no talent hacks that would be nothing without record companies backing them up. They are just pawns in a marketing scheme created by the record industry. I don't take them any more seriously than I do a homeless guy that babbles out loud on the subway and calls himself a rapper.

And while we're on the subject of P. Diddy, Diddy, Puffy, Puff Daddy, Sean Combs, or whatever the hell he calls himself these days, the only thing he's ever done is capitalize on the death of that drug dealer friend of his (Biggie) and sample a Police song.

Puffy is good, but Wu Tang is the best.

Hahaha now THAT'S an opinion I can agree with!!

I actually don't care for Diddy that much, I just have a hard time when people dismiss an entire genre of music, which is why I spoke up on this topic.

What's vibrant about lacking the musical capacities to write your own original musical accompaniment rather than just lazily stealing other people's work?

If Green Day can write their own music, then surely anyone should be able to.

I've also heard some truly brilliant hip hop artists that largely write their own musical accompaniment. K-Os, for example.

Are you familiar with postmodernism in terms of art, with its conscious recycling of older ideas? Hip hop is a postmodernist musical form. Moreover, there's been a long tradition in blues, folk, and country  music of passing melodies and lyrics down. If you're going to pick on hip hop for reusing the same melodies, you'd best go after blues, country, folk, and early rock music as well.

Funny, I dislike country, blues and most folk as well.

Guys, so what if Bono appeared in a Diddy video? Does it affect you personally? No. Stop being so shallow about music and branch out a bit.

Lots. I'm a big fan of 80s soft rock and pop. Alternative rock from the 90s like Our Lady Peace and Smashing Pumpkins. I like some direct pop such as Madonna and Kylie Minogue. The Tragically Hip, Matthew Good, U2. I like some house, trance, and electronica, as well.

I'll certainly try, but I suppose that it's tough for me to swallow only because I became a fan at a time when they would scoff at something like this.  Just saying...

If I may: Yay!  ^-^  It's a wonderful thing to try to break what you're used to in order to accept others (in this case, other music).

I do not mean to be condescending at all-  I think this is lovely.

..and that's my teacher moment for the day, ha ha ha.

Anyways, yeah that's cool that Bono appeared in P Diddy's video.  I'm not a fan of him, but networking between genres and basically extending an olive branch to a completely different demographic is awesome. Yay!

I'm not sure how old the video is.   But, I think Bono still has short hair.
