So much noize because of that nanosecond of footage taken in some event. ::)Deciding by your reactions,I was really afraid to look, who knows what he might be doing in that video. Don't scare people like that!

you must be new here if you think this is 'so much noize' (nice gangsta spelling btw)

Bono looks good to us, but I wonder how Bono looks to the oblivious club bodies who don't know who he is?  ;)

My co-worker actually met Bono at a club in 2001. An introduction was arranged by a very outgoing male stripper.  She's only a medium-fan of U2, and therein is the great injustice in the world!

Very lame to see Bono doing this, but what's even lamer is Diddy using the melody of Black Sabbaths "Iron Man" in this song.

First, it's not Diddy's song. It's a Kanye West track. Second, hip hop has a LOOONG and vibrant tradition of sampling music to make something new. So unless you're going to dismiss an entire genre of music...

I'll gladly dismiss it. It's awful, all of it. It's not even true music IMO. It's as shallow as a puddle.

A vibrant tradition? It's not even a sample, it was basically lifting the melody of Iron Man and putting different words to it, and the song still sucked.

What's vibrant about lacking the musical capacities to write your own original musical accompaniment rather than just lazily stealing other people's work?

If Green Day can write their own music, then surely anyone should be able to.

I've also heard some truly brilliant hip hop artists that largely write their own musical accompaniment. K-Os, for example.

Name 5 hip hop artists and I'll take your opinion seriously. With all due respect, if you're going to dismiss the work guys like of Gil Scott-Heron, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, and Tupac Shakur you're doing yourself a grave disservice. There's music out there other than U2 and Coldplay (haha) that's great, I promise!

Are you familiar with postmodernism in terms of art, with its conscious recycling of older ideas? Hip hop is a postmodernist musical form. Moreover, there's been a long tradition in blues, folk, and country  music of passing melodies and lyrics down. If you're going to pick on hip hop for reusing the same melodies, you'd best go after blues, country, folk, and early rock music as well.

umm, Gil Scott-Heron didn't like rap, and he hated the comparisons of his own work to hip-hop.

I agree, he didn't care for the misogynist elements of hip hop and felt uncomfortable being credited as the "godfather of hip hop." However some of the most socially conscious MCs of all time have frequently credited him as a profound inspiration.

Disowning your offspring doesn't make them any less your DNA, if you catch my meaning ;)
