Overrated song: Walk on
Underrated song: Wire
Overrated album: ATYCLB
Underrated album: October/Pop/NLOTH;
I can't choose between them, I think all of those three albums are very underrated.

What do you think is the most overrated U2 song? With or Without you [more than it should have been; it's a good song but not great]

What do you think is the most underrated U2 song? Twilight [I enjoy that tune!]

What do you think is the most overrated U2 album? Thanks God it's Achtung Baby [more than deserved!]

Most underrated U2 album? NLOTH [without Fez and Get on your boots and with different arrangements for the title song and some others it would be almost a great album] I disagree with everyone who voted for Pop. It did a great success at the time (and still does, see the threads), no comparisons with NLOTH, when everyone became sad and frustrated with the weird features

I don't see how anyone who was at least 13 years old in 1987 can say that The Joshua Tree is overrated. Isn't that like me saying Sgt. Peppers is overrated?

The Joshua Tree thoroughly deserves it's reputation as one of the best albums of all time.

Overrated Song: Even Better than The Real Thing
Underrated Song: A Sort of Homecoming
Overrated Album: HTDAAB (based on its best Album grammy)
Underrated Album: Boy... October is better than most will let on, but relative to where it should be Boy is not given enough credit.

Overrated song: Please :P (And Stand Up Comedy. I know it's not overrated at all, but I'd just like to take any opportunity to say how much I detest it. "Come all ye people." *shudder* I want to twist Bono's fecking head off every time I hear it. :D)

Right um..

Underrated song: The Electric Co. Out of Control is usually seen as the best song on Boy, and while it's awesome, so is this one!
Overrated album: HTDAAB (Ugh! Bleh!)
Underrated album: Also will have to say Boy...prior to 360 it was Zooropa. :D

Oh you're gonna make Pride upset.  :D

And what makes Bomb overrated? I think it's the other way around actually.

I think on this forum it's not well liked, but out there among casual fans it is. My casual fan friend lists it as one of his favourites, and he in turn has other casual fan friends who also like it a lot.  :-\

And Pride knows I love her...this is what I'll cling to. :P

But of course  :D Nice Zooropa Vinyl BTW, I want it on my wall  :D

The thing with Bomb is that I find the other tracks strong on their own. AMAAW, Love and Peace, Crumbs, and such are are all songs I really enjoy. I like the album tracks of Bomb more than I do ATYCLB and a couple other albums. I can see the casual fan love for it though, I think Vertigo certainly helped there.

Who "rates" these records?  We need to know so we can figure out what is overrated and underrated.

If I would try to make my own criteria, I can say that the most underrated U2 "song" (but it really isn't), is the "Theme From Mission Impossible" by Mullen and Clayton.  It went all the way to 11th on the Billboard charts - not bad for an instrumental featuring the non-singing members of U2.

Yet, that song has never been played live or included in Best Of U2 releases - even though a non-U2 song like Miss Sarajevo made such compilation.

Cheers,

J

Sgt.Peppers is overrated. As are the Beatles generally.

I was over 13 in 1987. JT is a good album although it suffers from having a mostly strong A side with a somewhat average B side - therefore as a whole I would say it's overrated. It has some era defining tunes but that doesn't make it a brilliant record. It's no Achtung Baby or TUF.

I was 13 in 1987 and I think JT is aptly rated: an amazing album that vaulted U2 to superstardom, and stands the test of time. Is it their best album? No. Is it a really good album? Yes.

p.s. I think you have your A and B sides mixed up. The JT B side, and all of its B side singles are brilliant.
