brian eno being strange
« on: November 11, 2012, 07:47:05 AM »
i understand there has sometimes been tension between brian eno and the band...

but i still find eno calling u2 the abba of their day a bit extreme.

hes essentially saying they have no credibility right now.

i know abba were a great band in their own right...but i think its still a stretch...

he doesnt seem to defend them enough in this interview.

When isn't Eno being strange? ::)

But that's a weird comment to make. I don't agree with it at all. What interview indeed?

EDIT- Now that I've read the actual comment, I don't see anything bad being said. In context, equating U2 to ABBA was saying that they wre a guilty pleasure; you didn't want to like them but did. So I'd say that's a compliment. Also, nice article; it makes me want to listen to the album, so I guess it did its job. :D

Well it is true that a lot of utes who like U2 have parents who also like U2. And it's probably also true that they have to listen to U2 behind closed doors. Basically, I think Eno may be spot on.

defend them from what? what he said is that even the people who say they don't like U2 when they're out in public secretly listen to them when they're not.

It's of bad taste to praise yourself... Brian.

"Great minds" and all that. Plus, if I were Eno, NLOTH would have sounded very, very different.

Yes, we know the band didn't let you have your way with NLOTH, but that's the cross of every producer.

And uploading a photo of James Hetfield as your avatar will not work, Brian... We know who you are.  :P
