Miami (the song) Lovers or Hater Thread
« on: December 04, 2012, 08:24:45 PM »
On one of the lists I put it as one of the worst U2 songs (I was wrong maybe) but I just looked and its my 2nd most played song on POP :o (behind staring at the sun). Its one of those songs thats so different for U2 it kinda demands my attention. What do you guys think?

I'm listening to POP right now and I realized I never really gave it a proper listen and I have to say its a really good album. But Staring at the Sun and Miami are the standouts for me. Playboy Mansion is a close third

I don't know if I love it yet, but I went to hating it to thinking it was fricking awesome, along with the rest of Pop.

I never liked the song from the first listen.  Too much drum machine and loop with little band, too much talking with little singing, too much pointless lyrics with too little meaningful ones.

But it did make for interested theater live - from the umbrella, to the Bono stage act, to the incredible comic-inspired war planes and colorful videos.

Cheers,

J

I went from thinking its one of U2's worst songs to now thinking it's brilliant.

I feel like a lot of the songs from Pop, and probably the album itself, are like that. It grows on you.

It has lyrics perfect for the area during that time, with the perfect music the match.

I think it's great. Granted, I'd probably consider it my least-favorite song on the album, but that in no way means it's bad. I love the creative samples and Larry's percussion is simply awesome. Add to that Bono's quasi-rapping and it's definitely one of the most unique and fun songs on the album.

It's certainly better than most fans give it credit for. Glad to see some love for it around these parts.

The live version is so much better than the album version though. It packs a punch live that is missing on the relatively lethargic album version.
