In the spirit of the season, I just felt we should start a thread paying tribute to one of the best covers U2 has ever made - Christmas, Baby Please Come Home.

I have seen many other versions of this song in youtube and listening on audio - from Michael Bubble, Bon Jovi, and even Mariah Carey - but U2 trumps them all by a mile.

I've always been partial to the wink Bono gives the camera just after the "It's Christmas...baby please come home" in the deep voice at the beginning of the video.

Actually, it may not be U2 but Bono's performance with Band Aid 20 tops the bill.

His voice of the iconic line had the confidence of a successful musician with the tone and phrasing that brings shades of the HTDAAB era.  He truly improved on the original version where he sounded like a screaming girl who was trying so hard to be recognized but ended up sticking out like a sore thumb.

But for pure U2 goodness (and not just Bono), we have Christmas Baby Please Come Home.

Don't get me wrong, I love this cover and consider it one of U2's better cover efforts, however, it is just not Christmas to me until Darlene Love sings this on Letterman. . . U2 just can't touch her version. . .

Bono's wink, Edge's eye-roll...Adam even winks at Bono toward the end.  It's a beautiful video.
