Christmas Baby Please Come Home
« on: December 20, 2012, 09:28:58 AM »
In the spirit of the season, I just felt we should start a thread paying tribute to one of the best covers U2 has ever made - Christmas, Baby Please Come Home.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sf_e0AM2ars

I have seen many other versions of this song in youtube and listening on audio - from Michael Bubble, Bon Jovi, and even Mariah Carey - but U2 trumps them all by a mile.

Happy Holidays to all.

Cheers,

J

So many things to love about this song.  My personal favorite; the wink.

I'm also a big fan of the eye roll Edge gives Bono around 1:30.

I've always been partial to the wink Bono gives the camera just after the "It's Christmas...baby please come home" in the deep voice at the beginning of the video. :D

Actually, it may not be U2 but Bono's performance with Band Aid 20 tops the bill.

His voice of the iconic line had the confidence of a successful musician with the tone and phrasing that brings shades of the HTDAAB era.  He truly improved on the original version where he sounded like a screaming girl who was trying so hard to be recognized but ended up sticking out like a sore thumb.

But for pure U2 goodness (and not just Bono), we have Christmas Baby Please Come Home.

Cheers,

J

Don't get me wrong, I love this cover and consider it one of U2's better cover efforts, however, it is just not Christmas to me until Darlene Love sings this on Letterman. . . U2 just can't touch her version. . .

This year's version.

But 2010's version was especially good

I meant U2 trumps all the cover versions.

Darlene Love still owns the song.

Bono's wink, Edge's eye-roll...Adam even winks at Bono toward the end.  It's a beautiful video.   :D ;D
