For me, having first seen "New Year's Day" live via the Under a Blood Red Sky video, the "October/New Year's Day" combo still can't be beat.

UTEOTW/NYD.  A great double whammy.

october into NYD is the stuff of legend. Takes me back to happy memories of UABRS VHS

UTEOTW-NYD is the second best transition best.

Never heard the other two options, but i would go as far to say,i dont like the thought of BD into NYD

That's one way to big up the song.

Yes. Arguably their all time best one-two bang.

Agreed. ZooTV can't be beat.

Good catch, Droo; I didn't realize that "Elevation"/"New Year's Day" had been played so frequently outside of the U.S. on the Vertigo tour (and to a lesser extent on 360 stops). I mostly picked combos that became standard or nearly so. "October"/"New Year's Day" was standard from the War tour through the Love Town tour; UTEOTW/NYD was standard from later Zoo TV tours through Popmart; and "Beautiful Day"/"New Year's Day" was fairly common on 360 and less common at U.S. Vertigo stops. I made an exception for "Tomorrow"/"New Year's Day" only because it so surprised me when I heard it and it is such an interesting combo choice (although there you could arguably expand it to an "October"/"Tomorrow"/"New Year's Day" trilogy).

I love the fact that NYD has mostly served as the second act in a kind of call/response play. I also remember that Rolling Stone (I think) called the "October"/"New Year's Day" combo "majestic" or some similar term.
