That's not a bad way of looking at things. Their eras are so unique and instantly identifiable.

Yeah. I can't imagine a U2 playlist in which I am shuffling songs like I Threw a Brick with songs like Babyface. I just can't cross between such distinct eras like that.

I also don't ever shuffle U2 songs in with songs from any other band (and U2's the only band I feel this way about).

I have my iPod on constant shuffle. It often plays disparate-era U2 songs together.

I have a hard time thinking of whether an album from one U2 era is superior to another from another era. For example, among the Boy/October/War block, I like October best. But if you ask me to compare Boy with TUF or R&H with Pop, I will probably just look at you with an expression that says I have no conceptual framework for doing such a thing.

I can only do it if there is some relation between albums.

Like I can mix NLOTH and TUF songs in a playlist, or Bomb and Boy.

Me either -- that's strange when you think about it -- I didn't even consciously realize I did that either until you mentioned it.  Strange.
