10 reasons to be relevant is the translation. I like just 'Exist'

I like that, or Existence

Any title that smacks of existential depth and profundity will only come off as pretentious, and will be met by collective eye-rolling (led by me).

Just to add a few other working titles that were considered, some more serious than others....

Zooropa - Dog (with a play on reversing to 'God')
Pop - Miami, Novelty Act, Staring At The Sun, Discotheque, Discola, Super City Mania
ATYCLB - At Heart Zero, Travelog, Sur Mer, Love & Peace, Grand Canal Docks, Love Will Never Say Goodbye and interestingly, All That You Leave Behind.

Nice set of potential names here... weird to imagine those albums titled anything else though.

Some of those sound really awkward... I'm glad they went with what they went with.

I think Mofo would have been the best alternative for Pop.

I'd heard of Miami being an alt. title, but SATS would of been a good title and a good fit for the album art imo. I never really "disliked" any album title minus HTDAAB's. It's just.......dumb.

Better than HTDAAB though.

And there was me thinking that ‘Being and Nothingness’ could well turn out to be an apt title for the next U2 record.

Call it 'Man' I say. Then tour and retire. One last hurrah.

I think the way the band/Bono thinks (the phrases), will be simpler (but yet strangely more poetic and impactful) than any pseudo-poetry I or Joe Schmoe on the streets can create.

For example, NLOTH and ATYCLB. Phrases that are not conventionally poetic. Also, as B has gotten older, he has become more rambling and long-winded. Perish the thought of one-word titles!

North Star would be a cool title if that song makes it on the album.

Do you really think they'll retire after this album?
I'd rather them do what the Stones are doing...retire slowly

There's no way they'll retire after this album. They're such restless souls. They're procrastinating right now, partly I think because Bono and the Edge are such dreamers that the band isn't committing to working in a diligent, decisive manner...but I simply can't imagine them permanently closing off the avenue of expression that is U2 for them, not willingly. They'll probably slow down like The Stones, indeed. And that's just fine. It's NOT better to burn out than to fade away. Sorry Neil Young.

I just hope they don't start fading too hard just yet.
