Most Underrated Album of All Time

Because it wasn't warmly received by the general public and critics.

This. It was, apparently, spit on by critics and fans alike when it came out. Yet, like Pinkerton before it, the true fans "got it" and now it's easily considered the bands masterpiece. Not a single weak track on it. Not one.

Yep. Not to mention Rolling Stone voted it as the Most Underrated album of the 2000s. So ha.

A couple others I'd like to add:

REM-Monster: I honestly liked it's rock gutsiness far more than their other 90s albums, especially Out of Time, which is flamingly overrated.

Yea, Monster is good. I heard it expecting trash and i enjoyed it.

Kanye West-Graduation: Yes, it sold well at the time, but compared to Dark Twisted Fantasy, Late Registration, and College Dropout, it gets no love. And even 808s and Heartbreak is respected as being very influential. But Graduation is simply 'good.' What??? It's West's 2nd best only behind MBDTF, and has 4 of his top 10 songs ever: Homecoming, Stronger, Can't Tell Me Nothing, and his best song, Flashing Lights.

For what it's worth, I love Sam's Town. If it was spit on by critics then those critics should be spit on.

Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals

Overlooked by most because, well, it's Marilyn Manson. If you put aside the faux shock rock and fairly poor music recorded since, it's actually a masterpiece of an album.

Manic Street Preachers - Lifeblood

Hated by most manics fans for some bizarre reason, and hardly noticed by anyone else, which is a shame. I believe most fans of modern day U2 would love this LP. All it takes is a few listens.

Placebo - Meds

Underrated by the fans again for some bizarre reason. Just listen to Drag, Blind, Infra-red, Space Monkey, Follow The Cops & Song To Say Goodbye and tell me this is a bad album.

Verve - A Storm In Heaven

Overlooked by the masses. True Verve fans know what you're all missing with this one.

Oasis - Heathen Chemistry

I would have gone with Be Here Now for obvious reasons, but that album sold loads. I think this one is generally underrated by the fans and I'm not sure why. The album tracks are, at worst, okay. Some are bloody brilliant. And the singles are incredible. Not a bad LP at all.

Radiohead - Pablo Honey

No fuss, just good old simple pop songs.

Idlewild - Warnings/Promises

I think most of the world don't even know who this band is but it really is their loss. They write some of the greatest music I've ever heard. Songs which in my opinion would have been massive had they had more radio exposure.

This I agree with. This is my 2nd favorite Radiohead album behind OK Computer

Presence - Led Zeppelin

Recorded and mixed in just over two weeks with Robert Plant singing all his parts in a wheelchair as he was still recovering from a car wreck. Jimmy wanted a no nonsense back to basics album and delivered big time. No acoustic guitar, no keyboards, none of the diversity they had shown on the preceding few albums, just a straight hard rock album.
And possibly JPJ/Bonham's best moment as a rhythm section in Achilles' Last Stand. To this day they feel it is an underrated album which may be why when they chose to play something that they had never before played live at the Ertegun tribute they chose a song from this album.

trivia: In Through The Out Door was also recorded very quickly - just 21 days! - but then Page spent 6 months mixing it.

I think Arcade Fire's Neon Bible is pretty underrated. It seems fans and critics always list it was their weakest album. I actually think it's their best but I realize I'm in the minority on that one.

It was but from a lot of critics (not all) it gets just an average rating
