Most Underrated Album of All Time

What about Van Halen's - 1984
Its really a great album, just too much of a change from their previous albums for critics to accept it

Underrated? I thought that was a huge hit?

It was but from a lot of critics (not all) it gets just an average rating

well, it's a lot better than the album before it, but it doesn't hold up when measured against their first four albums.

I agree with most posts, won't repeat albums that have been mentioned.

Elegantly Wasted - INXS (their final Hutchence release is quite solid from start to finish).
The King of Limbs - Radiohead (seems to be hated by a lot, but I think it is quite good).
Pink Floyd - Meddle (a great album that gets overlooked on the whole because of its epic closer)
David Bowie - Earthling (perhaps ahead of its time, I like the industrial influence)
R.E.M. - New Adventures in Hi-Fi (I think REM fans tend to like it, but I don't think it gets the recognition it deserves).
Pearl Jam - Binaural (Perhaps too mellow for most Pearl Jam fans, it is an excellent album that I've grown to love).

Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals

Overlooked by most because, well, it's Marilyn Manson. If you put aside the faux shock rock and fairly poor music recorded since, it's actually a masterpiece of an album.

Yeah, this is a great album. So is Holy Wood.

As phenomenal as they are, Revolver, Sgt Peppers and Abbey road are not as good (to me) as Magical Mystery Tour. So I know how you feel when their other albums are overlooked for the 'big three'. In fact, Rubber Soul is my second favorite Beatles album.

Depends where/when/what your reading and what your listening too in my experience. I guess Abbey Road and the White album get juggled about a bit to form their big three. I love that one too, dont get me wrong.

I've always heard Revolver, SPLHCB, and White/Abbey as kind of their top albums...

although for myself, I like Let it Be, Revolver, and Rubber Soul as my top 3.

My three favorites are Sgt. Pepper, Revolver, and Magical Mystery Tour.

I'd say the "big three" would be Pepper, Abbey Road, and White Album.
