I would say a little more optimistic (Larry said it and not Bono) and keeping my fingers crossed, but still cautious.

Nothing is real until Larry says it's real.  Therefore, my optimism for a new album this year has increased dramatically.

New single released with an album release date from David Bowie and now Larry 'no bullsh*t' Mullen Jr says U2 are aiming for a September release date.

I knew it! Now I'm even more excited for a 2013 release, I believe it's happening.

By the way, is this the first time Larry has mentioned a release date for a new album?

Hearing it from Larry is definitely more trustworthy, though I'm still being cautious. This is good news but it needs to be followed with regular updates before I'll fully believe it. It's a great start though.:)

It fits a timetable they know well. 

Boy - 20 October 1980
October - 12 October 1981
TUF - 1 October 1984
R&H - 10 October 1988
AB - 18 November 1991
ATYCLB - 30 October 2000
HTDAAB - 22 November 2004

It gets the album out before Christmas and let's the band do promo-warm up work before a spring tour.

This and the Bowie news this week is great.  But to temper enthusiasm a bit -- he says "aiming for September."  But since it's Larry, hopefully that means November.  Of this year.

HTDAAB was released in November of 2004 but in January/February of 2004 they were getting in more producers so who knows what could happen.
