Worst U2 Song contest - Round 1, Boy Era

If they were one song, they wouldn't be on separate tracks on the CD. Just because they're paired doesn't mean they're the same song in the same way that the three movements of Zooropa are all part of the song.

I also think it denies people who may legitimately dislike one or the other from voting for them individually. There may be people who hate the ACD part but like ItH, and vice versa.

I highly doubt either will be voted on as the worst (I realize assuming is not the best form of democracy).

Here's an early CD of Boy that lists them as one track.

Fascinating. An Cat Dubh and Into The Heart really feel like two distinct songs to me, musical segue aside.

My CD copy also says that they're one track, as does my iPod. I would have voted for Into The Heart had it been on here.

I'm not sure where I stand on the two different songs vs. one song, but I don't think just being on track makes something the same song. Songs that fade into each other on albums are not the same song (like Brain Damage/Eclipse on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon).

I did a little digging and discovered there are no known performances of one without the other, and always with ACD being played first.

I suppose that's something.

I almost wonder why, on the 08 Remaster, they didn't just put them together like the UK original release did? I mean they were messing with them anyways why not just put em together since they were never played individually live anyways?

was the "Exit debacle" the only other instance of "track segues" being altered? <i believe Exile has the Gold Disc where the "outro" of OTH is made into the "intro" of Exit>

I'm surprised that The Ocean is in first place. I rather like it. It's ambient and experimental in a way that would take U2 three more albums to revisit.

For a forum that worships the experimental 90s U2, I would have thought we'd eat up The Ocean.

I do like The Ocean... didn't notice that Another Day was on the poll. I can't remember ever hearing it so I'd have probably voted for that. But The Ocean is my least favorite actually on the album U2 song. It's nice, but it doesn't exactly go anywhere. Good for moods though.

Went back and listened to it after voting for The Ocean based on memory. It's not such an awful song, and I'm kinda angry at myself for voting for it

My view exactly. Boy is a brilliant album, start to finish with no fillers in my mind. Pure genius. Naive yes, but 4 guys in a room making wonderful noise. Baby band indeed!
