What is it good for?
...Some stuff but not all that much really.
I continue to be fascinated with the disparity between this and when the board ranked its favourite albums a while back. It seems to me you can broadly divide up their albums in fan opinion into four groups: (In no particular order in each group)
1) The "Greats" - AB and JT
2) The "Really Goods" - TUF, Zooropa, Pop
3) The "Good" - Boy, War, NLOTH and ATYCLB
4) The "Poor" - October, Bomb, R&H
The top tier of albums are always the last men standing. The bottom tier are always the first out. What I find interesting here is that when we did the "Album Rankings", NLOTH and ATYCLB both came in the very middle, but when we vote by Least Favourite, they're going out immediately after the most universally disliked albums. That suggests to me that they are very polarising- i.e. Quite a lot of people like them, but the people who dislike them really dislike them. As opposed to War and Boy, which do worse in absolute rankings but survive a bit longer here because they're more inoffensive and thus polarise opinion less.
